Marc Nolan — Store Associate Compensation: $23–$25/hour plus commission The Role You are the frontline of the Marc Nolan experience. You are a host first, a stylist second, and a salesperson third . You set the energy of the room, create a welcoming environment, and make people want to spend time in the space. But great hosting is not passive. You are also responsible for the sales, presentation, product, inventory, and day-to-day maintenance of the store . The role requires someone who can move fluidly between engaging a customer, styling a look, replenishing inventory, maintaining the space, solving a problem, and getting right back to the experience. The best person for this role understands that setting the vibe and maintaining the details are the same job . You notice what needs to happen and take care of it. You are highly attentive, naturally proactive, and comfortable solving problems without waiting to be told what to do. The Standard Hosting & Hospitality Own the energy of the room. Welcome every guest and make them feel comfortable, whether they are purchasing or simply exploring. Create an environment where people want to stay, discover, and return. Engage authentically around art, music, fashion, culture, and the neighborhood. Maintain the atmosphere of the space, including music, vinyl, lighting, and overall presentation. Make hospitality feel personal rather than scripted. Understand that every interaction is an opportunity to build a relationship with the brand. Driving the Try-On & Sales Sales are the through line of the role. They should feel like the natural by-product of excellent hosting, informed conversation, and thoughtful styling—but the commercial objective is always present. Use product knowledge and information to understand what a customer is looking for and guide them toward the right product. Use styling advice to help customers understand how a shoe or product fits into their wardrobe, lifestyle, and personal aesthetic. Use hospitality to create the trust and comfort that encourages customers to engage, try something on, and purchase. Proactively identify opportunities to introduce product, make recommendations, and move the conversation toward a try-on. Never wait passively for a customer to ask to see something. Create the opportunity. Read the customer and know when to educate, when to style, when to suggest, and when to close. Understand that a great conversation is not the only goal. The goal is to turn that conversation into an experience with the product. Treat every interaction as an opportunity to build both the relationship and the business . Hosting is the method. Sales are the outcome. The through line is creating enough value, trust, and desire that the purchase feels natural—not forced. Maintaining the Space The store should always be clean, organized, stocked, and ready for guests . Maintain presentation standards throughout the day, not just at opening and closing. Keep fitting areas, lounge areas, displays, counters, and product areas immaculate. Replenish product and supplies as needed. Maintain the music, vinyl, lighting, and overall atmosphere of the space. Identify and address issues with the physical space before they become noticeable to customers. Complete opening, closing, and daily maintenance tasks consistently. Take ownership of the environment rather than waiting for direction. Inventory & Product Management Treat the product with the same care you give the customer. Maintain accurate organization of inventory by style, size, and location. Receive, unpack, tag, organize, and replenish product as needed. Support regular inventory counts and identify discrepancies. Keep back-of-house inventory organized and easy to navigate. Communicate low stock, missing sizes, damaged product, and inventory discrepancies to the Store Manager. Ensure product moves seamlessly from back-of-house to the sales floor. Maintain strong attention to detail when handling product and inventory. Clienteling & Retention Build a genuine book of business. Capture customer information and develop relationships that extend beyond the transaction. Send thoughtful, personalized outreach around new drops, events, programming, and relevant product. Remember customer preferences and use that knowledge to make future interactions more meaningful. Give people a reason to come back. The goal is not simply to collect contacts. It is to create relationships that turn first visits into repeat visits. Event Execution Act as on-the-ground support during After Hours programming, including Jazz Nights, Sunday Suppers, product seeding events, and other cultural programming. Prepare and maintain the space before and during events. Welcome and engage guests. Support product presentation and sales when appropriate. Maintain the hospitality and energy of the space throughout the event. Reset and restore the store afterward. Feedback Loop Be the eyes and ears of the store. Provide the Store Manager with useful qualitative feedback for the EOD report, including: Who is coming into the store What customers are responding to What the neighborhood is saying Frequently requested styles and sizes Product or inventory issues Customer feedback Operational issues Opportunities to improve the experience What We're Looking For Sharp aesthetic awareness and an understanding of the brand. Genuine interest in art, music, fashion, culture, and hospitality. Exceptional attention to detail and pride in maintaining a beautiful, organized environment. A problem-solving mindset and the ability to take initiative without constant direction. Strong product knowledge and the ability to translate that knowledge into thoughtful styling advice. A natural sales instinct that does not rely on pressure or traditional sales tactics. Ability to multitask and shift priorities without losing sight of the customer. Comfort moving between customer-facing hospitality and behind-the-scenes operational work. Ability to shift effortlessly between talking art and music with a local creative and helping a tourist find the right $300 shoe. Strong communication, reliability, and follow-through. Ability to work independently while contributing to the larger team. The Right Person You understand that the experience is built through both big gestures and small details . You can be deep in conversation with a customer, notice that a size needs to be replenished, remember that the fitting area needs to be reset, solve an inventory discrepancy, and get right back to the conversation without making any of it feel disruptive.
