Design Director

Job Overview The Design Director is responsible for the overall design leadership of the practice, promoting quality design efforts across all departments within the office, and being actively involved in marketing and business development activities. Responsibilities Oversee and advocate for the highest quality, innovation, and elevation of design in support of client goals and vision. Support the company’s mission for client‑centric design, process, and implementation. Supervise a team of designers and oversee design presentations. Monitor project design development and provide design direction and support to ensure firm‑wide consistency. Possess thorough knowledge of architectural practice with emphasis on design, building materials, construction methods, engineering integration, and building codes/costs. Serve as a thought leader in the design industry, participating in professional organizations, outreach, and mentorship of design staff. Collaborate with firm‑wide design and thought leaders to support the design culture while advancing practice. Oversee integration and advancement of firm‑wide technologies into design processes and outcomes. Participate in developing and implementing firm‑wide design guidelines and standards. Lead design direction for the Central Texas Region, ensuring a high‑quality design product across all projects while managing the design team and client relationships. Develop design concepts, implement design standards, oversee client design presentations, and provide guidance to the project team. Qualifications A minimum of 15 years of experience. At least a Bachelor of Architecture. LEED AP preferred. Educational and corporate experience preferred. Strong commitment to customer service. Ability to work well under pressure, juggle and prioritize multiple projects and adjust work accordingly, often against tight deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Understanding of design tool technologies such as REVIT, Sketch‑Up, Generative AI, etc. Ability to interact with senior management, external client organizations, and vendors.
