Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele (Ortho)

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) on the MS/Tele Ortho unit is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment. This role entails working with an adult orthopedic spine unit specializing in various spinal surgeries, managing patient diagnoses, and ensuring integrated care with other medical disciplines.

Scheduling Details

• Shift Hours: Night shifts, 4x12 hours (19:00 - 07:30)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, totaling 6 weekend shifts
• Call-Off Policy: The facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
• Local Candidates Accepted: Yes (subject to radius rule)
• Pending License: Not accepted; an active SC or multistate license is required

Charting

Experience with EPIC charting is mandatory, with a minimum requirement of 1 year.

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Clinical Skills Required

• Must have experience in orthopedic nursing

Unit Information

The unit consists of an adult 26-bed orthopedic spine section focusing on:

• Spinal surgeries including laminectomies, spinal fusions, and discectomies
• Integrated pain management, physical therapy, and mobility support

Common patient diagnoses encountered include:

• Med/Surg
• Tele
• Cardiac issues
• Low-risk ACS
• TIAs
• Diabetes
• Hypertension
• COPD
• Dehydration
• Chest pain
• DVT
• PE

Specific procedures performed on the unit involve:

• Bedside lumbar puncture
• Post-cardiac catheterization (radial/femoral)
• Post-surgical care
• Post-renal biopsy
• CT Angiography
• Heparin drips

Float Requirements

While priority is given to maintaining staff in their designated unit, agency staff may be required to float to other units or locations as needed. Floating will be limited to areas where staff have documented competencies.
