Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00-19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current Registered Nurse license Certifications: TNCC, BLS, ACLS, PALS within one year of hire Must-Have: Level IV Trauma Experience Description: Provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting. Deliver care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Determine the priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicate with Emergency Department physicians about changes in patient status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Demonstrate competency in providing direct patient care, evaluating outcomes, consulting with other specialists as required, and adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and the general patient population. Assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized, educating the patient and family regarding pain management. Monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interpret the results. Possess knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify dysrhythmias, and treat appropriately. Accurately assign triage categories. Perform and document an in-depth nursing history, including chief complaint, health status, and other pertinent information with 100% completion rate. Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families. Function as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Possess knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Interpret data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s age-specific needs and provide necessary care. Interact professionally with patients and families, involving them in the formation of the plan of care. Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of learning, including families in teaching as appropriate. Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the patient's age and clinical condition. Prepare, hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids. Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Ensure a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Assist in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintaining good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives. Assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department. Assist in the orientation of new employees to the Emergency Department. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Show responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Assist in implementing core measures. Ensure appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times. Maintain an excellent attendance record. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Wear appropriate clothing for job functions. Work at maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with physicians and staff. Complete annual educational requirements. Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (QI) activities. Communicate the mission, vision, and values of the organization, as well as the annual Plan of Care/Service for the department. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Possess basic computer knowledge. While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands repetitively to handle or control objects. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
