Echocardiography Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer) – Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital, South Texas Veterans Health Care System Headcount: 4 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) About This Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Echocardiography Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer) to provide diagnostic cardiac ultrasound services at the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, Texas and its Satellite facilities. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced cardiology team while delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging and exceptional care to our nation's Veterans. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical expertise, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to perform comprehensive echocardiographic examinations independently. Minimum Qualifications Current RCS (CCI) or RDCS (ARDMS) certification. Current BLS and ACLS certifications. Minimum of 2 years of recent Echocardiography experience . Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, Doppler principles, and echocardiographic imaging. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) using M-mode, two-dimensional imaging, pulse-wave Doppler, continuous-wave Doppler, and color flow imaging. Identify and document abnormalities indicative of cardiovascular disease, injury, or other medically significant conditions. Modify imaging techniques to accommodate patient mobility limitations, body habitus, prosthetic devices, and other clinical variables. Produce high-quality diagnostic images and Doppler recordings for physician interpretation. Assist physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) for inpatient, outpatient, and intraoperative procedures. Assist cardiology fellows in performing and presenting echocardiographic studies. Perform exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiograms. Apply independent clinical judgment and problem-solving skills to optimize image quality and ensure comprehensive examinations. Independently calibrate, operate, and maintain echocardiography equipment. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of thoracic anatomy, cardiovascular physiology, and ultrasound principles. Explain procedures to patients and their families while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with VA policies and clinical standards.
