Job Overview Valiant Harbor International is a CVE Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business that specializes in technical, programmatic, acquisition, compliance, and financial services for government science and technology, research and development, and technological programs. The senior-level Software Engineer will support the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC/HNJ) within a Department of Defense environment. The role focuses on software development and project execution, prioritizing design, architecture, and leadership over hands‑on coding. Responsibilities Provide engineering leadership, technical direction, and subject‑matter expertise to ensure effective execution of program requirements. Collaborate with the IPT Engineering Lead and cross‑functional teams to integrate engineering expertise into lifecycle sustainment planning, evaluate technical approaches, requirements, and risk assessments. Lead and support both frontend and backend web development, and deploy applications to a web server. Support engineering reviews, milestone decisions, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, compliance with DoD standards. Provide input on acquisition strategies from an engineering perspective. Advise program leadership on engineering solutions that maintain cost, schedule, and performance objectives. Identify technical risks and mitigation strategies, ensuring realism in delivering a product suitable for the warfighter. Requirements Current Secret clearance; willingness to obtain a Top Secret with SCI eligibility after employment. Master’s degree in a STEM field (engineering preferred). 10‑15 years of software engineering and program management experience, with demonstrated expertise in engineering, technical program execution, and defense acquisition. Experience across multiple operating systems (UNIX, LINUX, etc.) and a variety of software languages and development toolsets (Java, XML, etc.), including memory‑safe languages, frontend and backend languages, interpreted and scripting languages, markup languages, and backend databases. Experience with frontend and backend web development (e.g., deploying applications to web servers). Experience with various integrated development environments (IDE) and tools (e.g., VI/VIM, Jupyter, VSCode, Eclipse, GitHub). Experience with DoD program documentation requirements (e.g., Statements of Work, Contract Data Requirements Lists, Technical evaluations, Integrated Master Schedules). Desired Skill Sets Experience developing within or supporting Zero Trust Architecture environments. Familiarity with modern development pipelines and methodologies (DevSecOps, extreme programming). Experience with DoD development environments and processes (ATO, CTF, eMASS/RMF, NIPR/SIPR). Cybersecurity or development related certifications (CompTIA Security+ required within six months of hire). Experience in DoD and/or Air Force environments, including classified settings. Prior service as a mid‑to‑senior grade officer (O‑4 to O‑6) in the United States Air Force or other service – highly desirable. Quality Assurance activities (reporting, tracking, resolving). Virtual environment technologies (containerization, virtual machines). Project Management Professional (PMP) or DAWIA certifications – a plus. Salary Negotiable.
