Description: The unit consists of 7 operating room suites. There are approximately 15-20 cases performed per day. All technologists and registered nurses must have BLS certification. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner Surginet. There is a charge nurse present, but not 24/7. Weekend call requirements for registered nurses and certified surgical technologists include one weekend night per month. There is also one call night per week for both registered nurses and certified surgical technologists. Call response time is expected to be within 30 minutes. Holiday work is only required in emergencies. Surgical scrubs are provided. Telecommunications are managed by Phillips. Surgeon on call hours are available 24/7. There is a respiratory therapy team available 24/7. Pharmacy services are not available 24/7; alternative resources are in place after hours. Shifts are 8 hours with variable start times determined by management. Staff will not float to other departments. Floor-specific orientation will vary depending on the skill set. Common case types include a high volume of orthopedic surgeries, including total joints, as well as general, gynecological, pediatric, and ophthalmic surgeries. Although cardiac cases are performed, traveling professionals will not participate in these cases. Scrubbing is necessary for this position, while it is only preferred for registered nurses. Surgical technologists must have BLS certification and be certified through the appropriate organization. Equipment used includes autoclaves such as Steris and V-pro. Clients can cancel up to four shifts for a 13-week assignment. The charting system is Cerner. A BSN is not required. This position is in an acute care setting.
