Advocates is seeking a motivated, dependable, and experienced Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to work with an individual with a developmental disability. In this rewarding role, you will support the individual in building independence, participating in community activities, and working toward personal health and wellness goals.

This individual enjoys staying active and is highly motivated to improve their physical fitness. They are looking for a mentor who can encourage participation in exercise, recreational activities, walking programs, and other community-based opportunities that promote a healthy lifestyle. Support is also needed in developing and reinforcing community safety skills, increasing independence, and building confidence while navigating various community settings.

Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred. The ideal candidate will be energetic, encouraging, safety-conscious, and able to provide consistent, person-centered support while helping the individual achieve their fitness, safety, and independence goals. Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address.

Hours and days of work

• Monday & Friday (11 AM - 2 PM)
• Wednesday (12 PM - 3 PM)

Pay rate: $20.30 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16.00 per hour.

Location: Syracuse, NY

Background checks required

Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.

Desired Skills and Abilities: previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred. Knowledge of disability related issues preferred.

Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider's rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
