Job Summary

Milwaukee Public schools is actively recruiting qualified candidates for the Electrician (Journeyman and Licensed) position.

An Electrician installs, repairs, inspects, and maintains electrically powered, life safety, public address, intrusion control, etc. systems, devices, equipment, components, etc. serving the MPS District to ensure integrity and the safety of the building occupants, functions as a Project Management Assistant to estimate, plan and oversee projects completed by contractors as required to ensure compliance with contract standards, details, specifications and deadlines, navigates and monitors Computerized Maintenance Management Software systems for trade-related work orders, various data, budget targets, etc., and operates/maintains equipment related to the trade.

The Electrician hourly wage is $50.86 per hour.

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job-related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Certifications and Licensing Requirements:

1. Certification in the EPA Asbestos Abatement Training Program (O&M) within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
2. Silica Hazard Awareness Training within first month of appointment. Note 1 & 2
3. Certification in the Lead Safe Renovator Training Program within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
4. Scaffolding User and Erector Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1 & 2
5. Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
6. Confined Space Entry training within 6 months of appointment. Note 1 & 2
7. Preferred NICET Certification for Fire Alarm Work.
8. Completion of DFMS Maintenance and Repair Staff New Hire EHS Orientation Training. Note 2

Note 1 Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS. Employee must obtain the certification within the time allotted.
Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).


Qualifications

Eligible applicants MUST have the following:

Education Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Certifications and Licensing Requirements:

1. Valid Journeyman Electrician license Wis. Stat. 101.862 at time of appointment and throughout employment.
2. Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator's license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.

Experience Requirements:

1. Five (5) years of experience as a journeyman electrician or have completed a Registered Apprenticeship with MPS DFMS. If using the Registered Apprenticeship pathway for experience requirement, a State of Wisconsin Certificate of Apprenticeship completion is required.
2. One (1) year of experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably in AssetWORKS).

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, inspect, and maintain; lighting, power, fire alarm, access control, public address and emergency power systems; motor, starter, disconnects, panelboards, transformers; food service, HVAC and plumbing equipment; outlets, plugs, switches, wire.
• Install, repair, inspect, and maintain; electrical, photo-cell, HVAC, access and intrusion control systems.
• Estimate the cost for electrical work associated with installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining electrical systems and components previously indicated.
• Assist in planning and overseeing of projects completed by contractors to ensure compliance with contract standards, details, specifications, and deadlines.
• Design and develop circuit diagrams with properly selected components, devices, wiring, etc. for previously indicated systems.
• Field electrical system layout as required for cost effective installation.
• Set up and operate machines to bend, cut and thread conduits.
• Read and record data from instruments and devices set up to measure various circuit parameters.
• Support the MPS strategic plan.
• Perform other job-related functions as assigned.
