Description:
The unit has 9 beds for Orthopedics and 13 beds for Inpatient Rehabilitation.
If the medical-surgical census does not support it, the individual may be assigned to rehabilitation patients.
Nurse-patient ratios are 1:4 for medical-surgical patients and 1:6 for rehabilitation patients, adjusted by the level of care required.
Staffing is reviewed twice a day to ensure appropriate ratios.
There is a charge nurse on each shift who takes patient assignments.
Patient care technicians are assigned to assist all patients with activities of daily living and vital signs during the night shift.
Due to urgent needs, nursing staff may also provide primary care when required.
Nursing staff do not titrate drips.
Respiratory therapists handle nebulizer treatments and CPAP setups.
Telemetry patients are monitored off-site by technicians, who call for any rhythm variations.
All nursing staff has completed a basic rhythm interpretation course, and strips are reviewed at least once per shift.
Self-scheduling is not available, but flexibility in schedules is offered when possible.
Every other weekend is required for this position.
Holiday shifts are rotated among staff to allow time for personal commitments.
Nursing staff may float to another medical-surgical unit if necessary.
The dress code stipulates navy blue scrubs, which are not provided by the department.
Training includes classroom instruction and precepted shifts to ensure readiness for the role.
