A Step Above Handy, LLC | Mooresville & Lake Norman, NC

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | No Evenings or Weekends

Starting Salary: $52,000–$55,000 + Monthly Performance Bonuses

At A Step Above Handy, we do things a little differently.

We're not a typical handyman service, and we're not a large remodeling contractor. We specialize in the projects that fall somewhere in between — the residential repairs, improvements, installations, and smaller remodeling projects that require real craftsmanship, experience, and attention to detail.

From installing windows and exterior doors to repairing siding, completing finish carpentry, repairing drywall, building and repairing decks, and tackling a wide variety of home improvement projects, our work is never exactly the same from one day to the next.

We're a growing, family-owned, 5-star-rated company serving the Lake Norman area, and we're looking for an experienced, well-rounded residential craftsman who takes pride in doing things right.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• $52,000–$55,000 starting annual salary, based on experience
• Monthly performance bonuses, typically $200–$300 when goals are met

You'll work alongside other experienced craftsmen on many projects. While you must be capable of working independently, we don't expect you to handle every project alone.

We provide the equipment, support, and resources needed to do quality work. You bring the experience, work ethic, and craftsmanship.

THE TYPE OF WORK WE DO

Our projects generally range from a few hours to a week, with most completed within 1–3 days.

We focus on residential repairs, installations, and improvements rather than large construction projects or lengthy remodels.

Your work may include:

WINDOWS, DOORS & MORE

• Replacement and full-frame window installations
• Exterior entry, patio, sliding, and storm door installations
• Proper flashing, weatherproofing, sealing, and insulation
• Interior and exterior trim, casing, and brickmold
• Siding repairs, including vinyl and fiber cement
• Minor wood rot and framing repairs
• Exterior carpentry and weatherproofing

Experience with Andersen or similar window systems is a plus. We are an Andersen Certified Contractor and Therma-Tru Certified Installers.

CARPENTRY & GENERAL HOME IMPROVEMENTS

• Finish carpentry, trim, baseboards, and moldings
• Interior door installation and adjustments
• Deck and porch repairs and improvements
• Cabinet installation and modifications
• Shelving and built-ins
• Minor framing and structural repairs within project scope
• General residential repairs and improvements

INTERIOR REPAIRS & SMALL PROJECTS

• Drywall repairs, hanging, and finishing
• Interior painting and touch-up work
• Minor plumbing repairs and fixture replacements
• Minor electrical repairs and fixture replacements
• Flooring repairs and other residential improvements
• General troubleshooting and repair work

Every week brings different projects. We're looking for someone who enjoys that variety and has the knowledge and confidence to approach each job professionally.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We need an experienced tradesperson, not someone just beginning to learn the trades. Not the Guy who say's "I built my own deck before".

Our ideal candidate has:

• 5 years of hands-on residential trades, repair, or remodeling experience
• Strong carpentry and finish-work skills
• Experience with siding, drywall, and general residential repairs
• The ability to accurately measure, plan, and execute projects
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• The ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Pride in delivering clean, professional, customer-ready workmanship
• A dependable, positive, and professional attitude
• Strong communication skills when working with homeowners and coworkers
• Willingness to learn company procedures and accept constructive feedback

Additional Requirements

• Valid North Carolina driver's license with a good driving record
• Must currently live within 10 miles of Mooresville, NC
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
• Ability to safely lift and carry 50+ pounds when necessary
• Availability for full-time Monday–Friday employment
• Basic personal hand tools required; company provides power and specialty tools

SKILLS ASSESSMENT

Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a hands-on or written skills assessment covering residential repairs, carpentry, window and door installation, drywall, siding, basic plumbing and electrical knowledge, measuring, and general troubleshooting.

This helps us verify your experience and make sure the position is a good fit for both you and our team.

WORK LOCATION

Projects are located throughout the Lake Norman area, generally within a 20–40-minute service radius of Mooresville.

**Applicants must already reside within 10 miles of Mooresville.

**Relocation applicants will not be considered.
