Medication Technician

Maybelle Center is seeking a Medication Technician (MTs) to assist with administering or assist residents in self-administering medications and treatments under Registered Nurse (RN) delegation and supervision, in accordance with OSBN Division 47 and Oregon Administrative Rules 411-054. The MT is responsible for documenting medication administration in the PointClickCare electronic MAR, monitoring for side effects, medical and/or behavioral changes, and addressing safety risks such as med-seeking, cheeking or diversion. This role involves close coordination with all departments and requires additional care coordination and support interventions guided by the Individual Service Plans, Temporary Service Plans, and Behavior Support Plans. As the Medication Technician, you will not only be working as part of a cohesive and interdisciplinary resident care team, but you will also be supporting nursing services in their ongoing endeavor to deliver comprehensive, holistic health models. They will actively collaborate with team members, external partners, and residents to promote recovery and stability in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner. This position is full-time, non-exempt On-site at our assisted living facility (Macdonald Residence) Shifts available: Day (6am-230pm) Tuesday through Saturday Day (6am-230pm) Friday through Tuesday Swing (2pm-1030pm) Sunday through Thursday Duties and Responsibilities Community Philosophy and Culture Adheres to and conveys the community's philosophy of supporting dignity, privacy, independence, choice, individuality, and a home-like environment for residents. Answers call lights promptly, assists where needed for resident care and safety and embodies a Universal Worker culture. Prioritizes people over pills. Participates in fostering a strong, cohesive care team, contributing to a positive work environment through effective communication and professional interactions. Resident Care and Medication Administration Administers or assists residents to self-administer medications and treatments under physician orders and RN delegation, in compliance with OAR 411-054 and OSBN Division 47. Follow the Six Rights of Medication Administration: Right Resident, Right Medication, Right Dose, Right Time, Right Route, and Right Documentation. Implements physician orders and resident-specific instructions only under the direction and supervision of an RN or LPN. Maintains awareness of resident behaviors that indicate med-seeking, cheeking, hoarding, or diversion; follows protocols such as visual mouth checks and enhanced supervision. Measures and records vital signs and weights as a taught task under RN direction. Provides services as indicated on residents' MARs, Service Plans, Temporary Service Plans, Behavior Support Plans, Alerts and Incident Reporting. Documentation Requirements Accurately documents medication administration, refusals, behaviors, and adverse reactions in the MAR and paper documentation. Reviews and references Temporary Service Plans (TSP), Service Plans, Alerts and Behavior Support Plans (BSP) prior to administering medications when applicable. Complete Incident Reports (IRs) when the first responder and/or witness, per policy. Completes required narcotic documentation and will perform shift change narcotic counts with proper verification and co-signature. Maintains security of the narcotic keys and cart while on shift. Reports changes in condition, refusals, or behavioral concerns to the RN, LPN, DNS, or DBS. Reports medication errors or near misses immediately; completes incident reports thoroughly and participates in corrective action planning. Communicate with physicians only under nursing direction and supervision. Medication Management and Storage Ensures medication security, including locked carts, secured controlled substances, and proper storage of insulin and temperature-sensitive medications. Follows procedures for medication ordering and reordering; promptly notifies the nursing team if there is a delay or discrepancy. Must seek education and training from the Lead. Prevents loss, breakage, or waste by adhering to handling, storage, and documentation protocols. Regulatory Compliance and Safety Maintains accountability for current RN delegation and proactively schedules re-evaluations within the required timeframes. Adheres to Oregon Board of Pharmacy and Nursing rules, follows the Oregon DHS OARs for medication administration rules, internal policies and procedures, emergency protocols, infection control practices, and disaster preparedness standards. Responds to emergencies, including administering Narcan, CPR, and first aid as certified and required; notifies RN on-call and documents incidents per policy. Follows community emergency protocols for fire, fall, missing resident, behavioral crisis, medical emergencies, overdose, substance use and disaster drills. Adheres to all community policies, safety procedures, and administrative protocols. Communication and Collaboration Collaborates with the Direct Care, Lead Direct Care, Float Direct Care, and Behavioral Health teams regarding medication-related behavioral observations. Attends shift huddles and contributes to team communication. Collaborates with Direct Care Lead for coverage during huddle and communicates huddle meeting minutes afterwards. Coordinates with Direct Care Lead for lunch coverage. Participates in interdisciplinary care planning as requested by the nursing team. Follows home health and hospice protocols as directed by the RN Case Manager, LPN, or DNS. Observes and reports maintenance or safety concerns in resident units or shared area. Training and Professional Development Attends all required education, training, and competency re-evaluation sessions Additional Duties Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Manager, Director of Behavior Services, DNS, RN, Administrator within the UAP scope and RN delegation requirements. Upholds HIPAA regulations, resident rights, and community confidentiality protocols. Maintains punctuality, reliability, and compliance with scheduled shifts and attendance standards. Demonstrates professional appearance and adherence to dress code standards. Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and adapt to new practices and technologies. Mandatory completion and maintenance of certifications and continued education required by Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR), Oregon DHS, and internal policy. Required to wear an assigned name tag and carry designated safety and communication tools (e.g., community keys, iAlert device, walkie-talkie, gait belt, closed-toe shoes, scrub pants, and company-provided shirts) while on duty. Supervisory Responsibilities This is a non-supervisory, peer-based position. Qualifications / Requirements Must have a high school diploma or general education degree. Working knowledge of equipment, supplies, and chemicals used in nursing operations. Minimum one year experience in behavioral health, trauma-informed care, treatment recovery or related field preferred. Preferred one year experience working as a Medication Technician in a community-based care licensed setting. Certified Medication Aide, preferred. First Aid & CPR certification, preferred. Food Handlers card, preferred. Onsite medication delegation and taught tasks, required. Additional certifications in behavioral health care, de-escalation, or trauma-informed care are preferred. Completion of Oregon DHS-required training and OAR Division 54/OSBN Division 47 education.
