Runops Technician
The RunOps Technician is responsible for fiber installation, cabling, testing, and troubleshooting within data center and network environments. This role involves performing installation of fiber infrastructure, executing testing and splicing activities, and ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with industry standards. The candidate will support operational activities, provide on-site technical expertise, and maintain high-quality service delivery.
Proficiency in fiber optic installation, termination, and splicing. Experience with testing and troubleshooting fiber systems using OTDR and related tools. Strong understanding of multimode and single-mode fiber systems. Ability to work in physically demanding environments including heights and confined spaces. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Proficiency with industry-standard tools and equipment.
3–5 years of experience in fiber or data center environments is preferred.
Install racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware. Perform grounding for equipment and cabling systems. Conduct testing including continuity tests and troubleshooting cable issues. Install various fiber connectors for multimode and single-mode fiber. Perform termination of jumper cords and fiber cables. Install fan-out kits and manage fiber breakout processes. Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with standards. Complete all required documentation including work orders and reports. Provide on-call support and travel to sites as required. Perform testing using OTDR and other diagnostic tools. Troubleshoot and resolve network and fiber issues. Perform mechanical and fusion splicing for fiber cables. Support installation and maintenance of fiber infrastructure.
Industry certifications in fiber optics or related fields. Experience with data center installations. Experience with mechanical and fusion splicing. Experience working in outside plant or confined space environments.
