Our Application Monitoring & Response team is seeking a hands-on Web Application Firewall (WAF) Security Analyst to identify, investigate, and respond to active threats targeting web applications and network-based assets. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong investigative mindset, practical WAF experience, and the ability to independently analyze and respond to security incidents.

The team operates in a fast-paced environment focused on real-time threat detection, response, and continuous improvement of security controls.

On-call participation is required, rotating approximately one week every two months.

Job Duties

• Monitor, investigate, and respond to active threats targeting web applications and network-based assets.
• Analyze Web Application Firewall (WAF) events to identify malicious activity, attack patterns, and indicators of compromise.
• Perform security investigations using web, application, and network logs to determine root cause and threat impact.
• Utilize Splunk to analyze security events, create alerts, develop dashboards, and build macros for threat detection and monitoring.
• Correlate data from multiple log sources to identify and respond to active security incidents.
• Leverage threat intelligence to enhance detection capabilities and improve existing security controls.
• Identify common web application attacks, including SQL Injection, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), and Remote File Inclusion (RFI).
• Recommend and implement improvements to monitoring, detection, and response processes based on investigative findings.
• Support frontline security operations and incident response activities in a fast-paced security environment.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, approximately one week every two months.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of hands-on Web Application Security or Web Application Firewall (WAF) experience.
• Experience administering, monitoring, or investigating events within WAF technologies.
• Strong Splunk experience, including:
  • Log and event analysis
  • Alert creation and tuning
  • Dashboard development
  • Macro creation
• Experience investigating active security threats through web, application, and network log analysis.
• Strong intrusion analysis skills with the ability to identify and interpret web-based attack activity.
• Knowledge of current cyber threats, exploits, and attack methodologies.
• Understanding of common network protocols and enterprise client/server environments.
• Working knowledge of Linux, Windows, and macOS operating systems.
• Experience with scripting languages and regular expressions.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize investigations, and drive incidents through resolution.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and investigative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience analyzing Apache, IIS, Active Directory, and other security-related logs.
• Understanding of modern web application architecture and deployment technologies.
• Knowledge of common web application attack vectors, including SQL Injection, XSS, and RFI.
• Experience with stateful firewalls and firewall rule management.
• Familiarity with security monitoring, SIEM, and analytics platforms used to detect anomalous or malicious activity.
• Demonstrated success investigating WAF or web application security incidents and improving detection capabilities based on findings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Addison, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $93.09 - $93.09/hr.
