Responsibilities include administering student discipline fairly and consistently, monitoring attendance, coordinating meetings, conferences, and professional development, supervising classified staff, supporting instructional programs and initiatives, and cultivating positive community relations among all stakeholders. The Elementary Dean of Students / Behavior and Culture Coach serves as a high‑energy catalyst for a thriving school environment, leading the cultivation of a positive school culture and climate where every student feels seen, safe, and supported. This proactive leader takes the initiative to design and implement consistent behavioral expectations, ensuring that discipline is handled through a restorative lens that keeps students engaged in learning, coaches teachers to build strong classroom management systems, and partners deeply with families. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Dean requires minimal supervision to identify potential cultural gaps and bridge them through innovative programs, staff coaching, and direct student mentorship. By maintaining a visible and energetic presence in hallways and classrooms, they act as a primary architect of a safe, joyful, and orderly learning community where high behavioral standards and a sense of belonging go hand in hand. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support the principal in the school’s day‑to‑day operations and leadership. Sustain a positive, safe environment throughout and beyond the school day through effective supervision. Provide quality, accurate, constructive, specific, and timely feedback to students and staff to encourage peak performance. Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding student behavioral successes and challenges, ensuring proactive and transparent communication. Facilitate re‑entry meetings with students, families, and teachers following major behavioral incidents or suspensions to ensure a successful return to the classroom. Connect families with school‑based or external community resources to support student emotional and behavioral well‑being. Establish strong rapport with students, staff, and parents to proactively address potential concerns. Execute student discipline fairly, equitably, and consistently in accordance with district policies. Define, teach, and enforce clear behavioral expectations for students. Track and analyze behavioral data (referrals, suspensions, attendance) to identify trends and proactively implement targeted interventions and coaching. Coach certified and classified staff on classroom management, routines, environmental structures, and proactive student behavior support. Conduct regular, non‑evaluative observations and provide actionable, real‑time coaching to teachers on classroom culture, routines, and engagement strategies. Design and facilitate school‑wide professional learning sessions focused on trauma‑informed practices, de‑escalation, restorative justice, and proactive classroom management to enhance student success both in and out of the classroom. Implement restorative practices with students to maximize instructional time and minimize time out of the classroom. Support, model, and coach the implementation of Tier 1 social‑emotional learning (SEL) strategies in the classroom – equipping staff with toolkits, tier‑1 behavior strategies, and intervention frameworks to manage behaviors effectively within the classroom. Supervise extracurricular activities, assemblies, and school events. Actively participate in all staff meetings, PLCs, and other required school events. Utilize technology and various communication avenues to engage stakeholders. Follow the professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision‑making. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Supervision / Technical Responsibilities Oversee support staff in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting conferences and goal‐setting sessions with classified staff; performing informal observations and coaching cycles with certified and classified staff on systems and structures to support a positive learning environment; providing constructive feedback and completing employee evaluations; recognizing achievements; and addressing disciplinary matters. Budget and/or Resource Responsibilities Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently. Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, scheduling, materials, and supplies). Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy. Education / Training / Experience Master’s degree with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, leadership, or school administration (preferred). Minimum of four (4) years of successful classroom teaching experience. Demonstrated experience in coaching, mentoring, or leading certified and classified staff. Demonstrated experience in student discipline management, including investigations, suspensions, and expulsions. Demonstrated experience in performance evaluation and feedback cycles. Demonstrated experience working within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Demonstrated skill in human relations, communication, and collaborative leadership. English fluency will be evaluated through the application and interview process. Licenses / Certifications Valid CPR and First Aid Certification. Preferred valid Colorado Principal License (or currently enrolled in an approved program to obtain one). Communicates effectively and professionally with the entire School District community. Skilled in data analysis, instruction, negotiation, coordination, conflict resolution, and interpersonal interactions. Proficient in comparing, computing, synthesizing, and evaluating information. Meets attendance standards and works the necessary hours to fulfill essential responsibilities. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student, family, and staff records. Upholds a positive, solution‑oriented attitude to support a healthy learning community. Complies with all District policies and procedures. Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and policies. Essential Physical Requirements Frequent lifting of 5 to 10 pounds. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Reports To Principal Location Bishop Elementary School Salary Salary placement ranges from $54,587 to $105,191 and is determined based on education, years of experience, and the Negotiated Agreement. The most current Licensed Salary Schedule is posted on the Englewood Schools Career webpage. The salary amounts listed in this job description reflect a full‑time (1.0 FTE), full school‑year assignment. Compensation for appointments that are less than 1.0 FTE and/or less than a full school year will be prorated accordingly. Englewood Schools accepts up to 19 years of verified experience.
