Position Overview The West Side Montessori Toddler Teacher creates a warm, secure, inviting and well-prepared environment that supports rapid growth across social-emotional, language, motor, and cognitive domains. The teacher observes each child’s unique development, facilitates sensory-rich, child-led learning, and partners with families to establish consistent care routines and foundational independence. Key Responsibilities Curriculum & Environment Design and implement a developmentally appropriate toddler program aligned with Montessori foundational principles (security, routine, independence, and hands‑on exploration). Prepare and maintain a calm, inviting, and orderly environment with age‑appropriate materials organized for easy independent access. Facilitate daily activities that promote practical life skills, sensory exploration, language development, early mathematics concepts, gross and fine motor skills, and social‑emotional learning. Observe, document, and reflect on each child’s progress; maintain simple portfolios and progress notes suitable for families and licensing requirements. Adapt activities to accommodate diverse developmental trajectories, including children with special needs or sensory considerations. Plan and supervise activities that foster listening, turn‑taking, empathy, self‑regulation, and positive peer interactions. Daily Operations & Safety Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing classroom environment; implement and model age‑appropriate safety practices, diapering/toileting routines, feeding, and hygiene. Manage daily routines (arrival, meals, rest/quiet time, diapering/toileting, outdoor time, transitions) with warmth, consistency, and efficiency. Ensure classroom materials are clean, labeled, and accessible; monitor for safety hazards and maintain occupancy limits. Family Partnerships & Communication Establish trusting relationships with families; provide regular, concise updates on each child’s daily experiences, routines, and milestones. Conduct periodic family conferences and offer practical strategies for home routines and developmental support. Communicate respectfully and transparently to build a strong school‑home partnership. Professional Collaboration & Growth Collaborate with co‑teacher, support staff to support individual developmental goals. Participate in regular faculty meetings, ongoing professional development, and Montessori training sessions. Contribute to school‑wide initiatives, community events, and enrollment activities as needed. Assessment & Compliance Align observations with licensing standards and Montessori‑friendly assessment approaches suitable for toddlers. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional boundaries in all interactions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or a field related to working with children. Demonstrated experience working with children in an early childhood setting. Knowledge of toddler developmental milestones. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to start date. Strong observational skills , documentation, and ability to translate observations into gentle, developmentally appropriate practice. Excellent communication skills with children, families, and colleagues; ability to build warm, respectful relationships. Ability to manage multiple needs in a calm, supportive manner and maintain a nurturing demeanor. Familiarity with classroom technology tools used for planning and family communication.
