About the company

Our client is building the operating system for agentic commerce: infrastructure that turns a user's intent to buy into a completed order across nearly any merchant site. Its AI agents use browser automation to execute checkout, support a universal cart, and return order confirmation to the originating app. Founded in 2024, the seed-stage company has raised approximately $3.1 million, has live customers, and is growing from a four-person core team.

The role and why it matters

As a Founding Engineer, you will architect and build the core systems behind the company's AI-agent platform from end to end. You will own critical infrastructure from conception through production, solve reliability and latency problems across complex payment and checkout flows, and help define the technical direction, engineering standards, and culture of the company.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and scale product infrastructure, developer tools, and APIs.

• Build reliable, low-latency backend systems that handle payment and checkout complexity across many merchant sites.

• Own full-stack product work with an emphasis on backend systems and integrations.

• Set direction for important technical surfaces as usage and customer demand grow.

• Develop and improve browser-automation systems that can reliably execute ecommerce transactions.

• Work directly with the founders on product priorities, architecture, and customer needs.

• Help shape engineering hiring decisions, operating habits, and company culture.

• Build, explain, test, and ship projects independently in a fast-moving startup environment.

Requirements

What we're looking for

• 2 to 6 years of full-stack software-engineering experience, with strong evidence of quality and growth potential.

• Production experience with TypeScript, React, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

• Experience at a reputable technology company or venture-backed startup.

• A record of independently building and shipping full-stack projects outside narrowly defined feature work.

• Strong product judgment, ownership, communication, and comfort working directly with founders.

• Genuine interest in AI, ecommerce, fintech, or the future of agent-driven transactions.

• Willingness to work on-site in New York City five days per week in a high-commitment environment.

Bonus points

• Experience with browser automation tools such as Playwright.

• Experience with Supabase, Bun, payments, checkout systems, or ecommerce infrastructure.

• Experience reverse-engineering complex web flows or building automation for difficult transaction surfaces.

• Startup experience in fintech, ecommerce, developer tools, or AI infrastructure.

• For earlier-career candidates, a strong computer-science program or high-caliber internship and company experience.

Benefits

Compensation, location, and equity

• $180K-$250K base salary, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.

• 0.5%-2.0% equity.

• Full-time, on-site work in New York City five days per week.

• Relocation support is available.

• Existing visa transfers, including OPT and H-1B transfers, may be supported on a case-by-case basis.
