Staff Accountant

US-based position, with strong preference for candidates in the Eastern or Central time zones. Position Summary MCE is seeking a motivated, analytical & detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will report to the Director of Finance and closely supports MCE’s CFO. The Staff Accountant is responsible for driving much of the day-to-day accounting operations, including maintaining and updating financial records, preparing reconciliations, and supporting month-end close. The role also manages MCE’s third-party payroll providers and supports related aspects of HR operations. As a key member of a small team, the Staff Accountant is relied on to ensure MCE’s financial information is accurate, complete and reported timely. Core Responsibilities Prepare, review, and post accounting transactions to ensure accurate financial records Assist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations Research and resolve discrepancies related to account balances, transactions, and supporting documentation Assist in preparing schedules and supporting documentation for audits, tax filings, and financial reporting Day to day monitoring and entering of bank activity Manage and initiate various types of payables and disbursement requests through the banking portals ensuring accurate approvals and financial processing Enter lender and borrower transactions within the ERP system Process and send client invoices and payment reminders with accuracy and timeliness Partner with third-party payroll providers to initiate and review payroll processes on a timely basis and with discretion Facilitate communications, reporting and ad-hoc analyses that support payroll operations Help maintain internal controls and support compliance with company policies and accounting procedures Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency within accounting operations Provide support for ad hoc reporting, special projects, and other accounting duties as assigned The salary range for this role is between $70,000-$80,000, with a final salary dependent upon a candidate’s location, skills and experience.
