Precourt Institute for Energy As part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, the Precourt Institute for Energy concentrates the talents of the University on energy research and education, from basic science and technology to policy and business. Our mission is to spark the creativity, collaboration, learning, and leadership needed for the global energy transformation. The initiatives, research centers, and educational programs of the Precourt Institute connect across campus in all seven of Stanford’s schools supporting work with the potential to solve the toughest energy challenges from science and engineering to policy and economics. Energy Equity & Just Transitions Integrate the tenets of energy equity into energy education and research at Stanford. Create experiential learning and research opportunities that engage external partners in accountable, collaborative ways to explore and scale pathways to more just transitions. Collaborate with the Explore Energy program based in the Precourt Institute for Energy to propel student and alumni interests in integrating energy equity and just transitions into their professional preparation and career development. Seeking Program Manager, Energy Equity & Just Transitions Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy seeks exceptional candidates to serve as Energy Equity & Just Transitions Program Manager to partner with the Energy Equity & Just Transitions Managing Director in developing and implementing strategies for (1) applying the tenets of energy justice in collaboration with external partners and campus partners in co‑curricular learning and (2) integrating practices that advance equity and just transitions into programming at the Precourt Institute for Energy, which intersects with all seven Schools at Stanford. The Program Manager reports to the Managing Director and works closely with them to lead and execute program objectives and expand strategic goals to meet growing demand. We are seeking a Program Manager who is creative, resourceful, and excited about endeavoring to advance equity and rapid energy transitions at an institution with world‑class research, influential thought‑leaders in climate science and energy policy, and an unrivaled ecosystem for entrepreneurs. Responsibilities Design and manage activities that advance program aims in education, research, and organizational development, such as faculty workshops, Institute convenings, summer fellowship trainings, and projects in Stanford’s Living Laboratory for Sustainability. Student engagement is a big part of this role. The candidate must have an enthusiasm to work with students and be excited about developing strong, lasting connections with them. Knowledge of Stanford University is preferred but not required. Manage program activities and related action plans in a high‑paced work environment and monitor and evaluate programmatic activities per outlined goals and objectives. Mentor students, connect them to resources and opportunities, and help them chart a path forward based on their interests in advancing energy equity through their pursuits. Demonstrate subject matter expertise in energy equity concepts and just transitions strategies and apply that knowledge to implement development of co‑curricular learning at every level of degree progress, including alumni executive education, and advisory support for research. Develop a well‑cited repository of resources used in program activities and provide recommendations to campus collaborators seeking such resources. Manage and track program budget and develop budget proposals and reports. Develop streamlined workflows to manage activities and resources. Develop and maintain program communications, including content for the program website in coordination with the Communications Director and Web Developer for Precourt Institute for Energy. Build and nurture relationships across Stanford’s energy ecosystem to connect opportunities to learn about energy equity and to engage it in their work. Raise awareness and visibility of the program activities, including marketing and outreach to students and campus partners as well as external partners. Avidly pursue continued learning and stay current with field developments related to program aims and activities. Collaborate and work together with other program managers at Precourt Institute for Energy, particularly the Explore Energy team. Qualifications To be successful in this position, you will need: Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi‑task. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects. Ability to communicate effectively and with professionalism, both orally and in writing. Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions. Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team. Relevant subject matter knowledge. Interpersonal skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations. In addition, our preferred requirements include: Educational or experiential background in energy. Entrepreneurial skills for growing a lean program in early‑stage development. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects. Experience designing and convening workshops. Familiarity with strategic planning approaches and ability to connect objectives with measurable outcomes. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain productive working relationships with faculty and fellows in a university setting. Proactive communicator with excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills. Flexible, open‑minded, and collaborative mindset with the ability to ideate, implement, and iterate. Work Environment Precourt Institute for Energy is a teamwork‑focused and collaborative work environment. The program manager reports to the Managing Director for Energy Equity & Just Transitions. In addition, the program manager collaborates with colleagues on the Explore Energy team (Precourt’s student engagement program), including monthly meetings and annual offsites. The expected pay range for this position is $100,023 to $124,516 per annum.
