Student Services Advisor

Under the immediate supervision of the Director of the Undergraduate Research Center (URC)-Sciences, the PEERS Faculty Director, the Assistant Director for PEERS and the PEERS SSA III, the Student Services Advisor counsels undergraduates in the Program for Excellence in Education and Research in the Sciences (PEERS) regarding academic requirements and options. Must be able to maintain a regular schedule and on-time attendance. Administrative duties include scheduling of counseling appointments, student tracking, and coordinating special projects. Assist in short- and long-range planning.

The URC-Sciences at UCLA works collaboratively to serve UCLA's undergraduate science population. Through various programs the URC-Sciences recruits, develops, and celebrates students involved in research. Our mission is to support and increase the retention of science majors in all disciplines, with some programs focused on students who face economic, familial, educational, social or other challenges.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills and experience to counsel and advise students effectively with professional, academic and/or personal questions and concerns.
• Detailed knowledge of University and College academic rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Detailed knowledge of campus and community resources for students.
• Ability to organize and conduct group presentations to provide information and explain policies and procedures to various constituencies.
• Skill in speaking with persons of various cultural, social economic and educational backgrounds.
• Skill in working independently and following through on duties with minimal supervision, and skill in setting priorities that accurately reflects the relative importance of assigned projects and responsibilities.
• Ability to establish and promote cooperative working relationships.
• Skill in using standard office applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet. Adaptability regarding the use of office internal software and web-based applications.
• Skill in evaluating information and policies according to criteria established by the College Academic Counseling.
• Ability to use discretion, sound judgment and tact in dealing with confidential materials and information.
• Working knowledge or ability to use UCLA's online academic student information system (OASIS), Counselor Desktop, and other online systems used for academic advising/counseling.
• Skill in representing to the campus and community, in advocating for, and in serving as a resource regarding assigned programs.

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent experience/training.

Special Conditions for Employment

• Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
• Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
• CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
