Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Farm & Ranch Right-Hand Man for a well-established, diversified family farming and ranching operation. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a dependable and well-rounded agricultural employee who enjoys both crop production and livestock work. The operation includes approximately 1,100 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and forage crops, along with a 400-head cow-calf operation and a seasonal cattle backgrounding enterprise. The backgrounding yard handles cattle through much of the fall, winter, and spring, with approximately 700 to 750 head on feed at one time and roughly 1,100 head moving through the operation annually. The employer is looking for someone who can take responsibility for a significant portion of the day-to-day crop production workload while also assisting with cattle and general ranch duties. This person will work closely with the owner and serve as a dependable right-hand individual within the operation. Primary Responsibilities Crop Production Operate tractors, planters, tillage equipment, hay equipment, sprayers, trucks, and other modern farm machinery Assist with planting, tillage, spraying, sidedressing, haying, harvest, grain handling, and transportation Set up, adjust, and properly operate equipment for changing field conditions Use GPS, autosteer, monitors, and other basic precision-ag technology Monitor fields, equipment performance, and crop conditions Perform routine equipment servicing and preventative maintenance Troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist with repairs Keep machinery, trucks, tools, and facilities clean and well maintained Work independently and complete assigned jobs without constant supervision Livestock Production Assist with feeding cattle using tractors, feed wagons, loaders, and related equipment Help with calving during the spring season Observe cattle for illness, injury, or performance concerns Assist with processing, doctoring, sorting, moving, receiving, and shipping cattle Maintain pens, bunks, water systems, fences, corrals, and livestock facilities Assist with the cow-calf herd, backgrounding cattle, pasture work, and seasonal cattle activities Provide dependable livestock coverage during busy crop-production periods General Operation Duties Assist with fencing, facility upkeep, shop work, welding, and general repairs Help maintain roads, yards, buildings, corrals, and other farm infrastructure Communicate clearly with the owner regarding work progress, equipment concerns, cattle issues, and upcoming priorities Be willing to shift between crop, livestock, maintenance, and seasonal duties as needed Help organize daily work and contribute to the overall efficiency of the operation Qualifications Previous experience in crop production, farm equipment operation, or a similar agricultural role Strong interest in working with both crops and livestock Ability to safely and efficiently operate modern farm machinery Basic understanding of precision-ag systems, including GPS and autosteer Mechanical aptitude and experience with routine equipment maintenance and repairs Livestock experience involving feeding, calving, doctoring, handling, or backgrounding cattle is strongly preferred Ability to work independently, recognize what needs to be done, and follow through Dependable, honest, self-motivated, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities Valid driver’s license required; CDL is preferred but may not be required Ability to work longer hours during planting, haying, harvest, calving, and other peak seasons Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a mature, reliable agricultural professional who takes pride in doing things correctly and caring for equipment, crops, and livestock. This person should be comfortable working directly with the owner and should not require constant supervision or repeated instruction. The employer does not expect the employee to manage the entire operation immediately. However, the right individual should be capable of gradually assuming greater responsibility and helping the owner spend more time managing the overall business rather than personally completing every field and livestock task. This is not a position for someone interested only in operating equipment or only in working cattle. The successful candidate must genuinely enjoy the variety and responsibility that come with a diversified crop and livestock operation.
