Registered Nurse, Outpatient Surgery

Department: Scotland Memorial Hospital - One Day Surgery Status: Part time Shift: 1st (United States of America) Qualifications Graduate of Accredited Nursing Program. Current NC or Multistate RN licensure; current BLS; Specialized Training ACLS Certification. Skills & Competencies Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Diplomacy, tact, and a positive approach to problem solving. Organizational skills and the ability to foster a teamwork environment. Effective communication with patients, customers, other departments, and staff in an articulate and professional manner. Computer (Electronic Medical Record) charting proficiency. Responsibilities Stay current with best practices and advancements in endoscopy and gastroenterology nursing. Ensure that proper technique and practice are used according to accepted standards. Supervise other personnel in the room and direct or assist as necessary. Ensure care of patient through proper identification, checking of chart and reporting changes in condition. Ascertain that consent form is accurate and properly signed prior to procedure. Ensure proper body alignment throughout procedure. Have all supplies and equipment in room with equipment checks completed before procedure to ensure it is in working condition. Care for specimens and cultures according to policy and procedure. Complete documentation and charges. Accompany patient to patient care unit and report to nurse on patient procedure and special happenings. Interview patient prior to procedure to facilitate knowledge of patient, assess condition and needs. Prepare supplies and organize materials with respect to special needs of patient and procedure. Age specific competency: staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. Performs duties as assigned by surgical services leadership. Responds promptly to patient needs and concerns.
