Job Summary
Registered Nurse, Intermediate Care Unit, Madison, Wisconsin. This position provides care to adult and geriatric patients in intermediate care, acute medical, progressive care, and thoracic units. The role supports patients with thoracic, cardiac, oncology, medical-surgical, and postoperative needs while applying critical thinking, teamwork, compassionate care, and evidence-based nursing practices.
Job Details
Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse with a Wisconsin or compact registered nurse license; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA); two years of acute care experience within the last three years in the specialty submitted; experience with telemetry, oncology, cardiac, progressive care, intermediate care, stepdown, or acute medical-surgical patients; experience with Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or intermediate care and surgical postoperative care; experience with electronic health record charting; competency in cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, central and peripheral line care, arterial line management, chest tubes, blood product administration, feeding tubes, heparin and insulin protocols, noninvasive airway management, oxygen therapy, intravenous therapy, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) management, cardiac procedures, hemodialysis management, vasoactive drips, wound care, and rapid response or code team procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Thoracic experience; experience with esophagectomies, lung volume reduction surgery, wedge resection surgery, cardiac surgery stepdown patients, hospitalist patients, arterial line management, and care for ventilated patients; Trauma Level I experience.
Schedule: Day/evening 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with every other weekend and some holiday coverage required; four 12-hour shifts may be scheduled; minimum of 36 hours per week.
Additional Information: The role supports patients with lung and esophageal diseases, lobectomies, decortications, esophagectomies, other thoracic procedures, lung volume reduction surgery, wedge resections, cardiac surgery stepdown needs, and hospitalist care. Responsibilities may include assisting with chest tube insertion in an onsite procedure room, caring for patients requiring telemetry monitoring, supporting general care and intermediate care populations, and participating in the development of evidence-based nursing practices. A telemetry examination must be passed before the start of the assignment, with separate adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation criteria and up to two attempts.
