Overview Ambulatory Patient Care Tech | Annapolis The Ambulatory Patient Care Tech will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care delivery team under the direction of the Registered Nurse to perform basic nursing care activities, help maintain a safe and clean patient care setting, assist staff, and help direct patient flow. Qualifications Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED (Required) Minimum Work Experience 1 year experience in an acute health care setting – preferably pediatrics (Preferred) Functional Accountabilities Clinical Activities Collect data and document information for meaningful use, including chief complaint, current medications, allergies, tobacco/smoking history and smoke exposure; accurately obtain vital signs (TPR, BP), height, weight and head circumference; orient the family to the clinic environment and paperwork at the time of the visit. Recognize abnormalities and report to the Registered Nurse or Provider; assist in pain screening and escalation of positive findings; recognize and respond to any child in distress and institute Basic Life Support when necessary; escalate to RN or Provider as needed. Provide basic nursing care (e.g., nourishment, assistance with ambulation, escort at discharge). Check equipment to ensure working order (scales, stadiometers, vital signs machines, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, oxygen and suction); perform corrective actions or inform appropriate personnel of repairs. Collect specimens for testing per policy/procedure and perform POCT or lab draws as applicable to the setting; inform patient/guardian of the collection process. Meet documentation requirements for clinic area (e.g., Joint Commission/DOH). Complete clean sweep tool weekly. Patient Flow and Unit Efficiency Maintain a neat, orderly environment and assist with preparation of exam rooms for patients. Prioritize tasks and special requests; complete tasks or report inability to complete. Obtain equipment and supplies and maintain PAR levels. Monitor waiting room and communicate delays; provide directions to lab, radiology, cafeteria, etc. Identify children/families with special needs (e.g., child on stretcher, oxygen use, isolation needs). Communication Contribute to a positive work environment and confer with appropriate personnel on unfamiliar problems. Greet patient/family, adapt to different education levels and emotional needs, monitor concerns, and report to Clinic Manager as needed. Maintain courteous, calm, professional demeanor with patients/guardians and multidisciplinary team members. Laboratory Competency Perform and document QC, resolve QC failures, and report problems to lab/supervisors. Participate in continuing education and complete competency challenges timely. Process specimens (centrifugation, sorting, storage); coordinate specimen pickup/delivery to referenced labs; troubleshoot procedures. Investigate improperly labeled specimens and requisition issues; answer general information questions and route technical questions to appropriate area. Maintain daily records of laboratory equipment and order routine lab/POCT inventory. Collect blood specimens by venipuncture/capillary method and conduct routine tests (e.g., urine dipstick, glucose, A1C). Self Responsibly Follow directions precisely and maintain confidentiality. Attend in-services; develop annual goals with supervisor; complete CHEX requirements and Occupational Health requirements; maintain BLS certification and any jurisdictional licensure/certification.
