Fiber Splicing Technician Job DescriptionCherokee Fiber & Associates is a proud division of Hyper Networks LLC.JOB SUMMARYResponsible for the maintenance and installation of new and existing fiber in an inside and outside plant environment. This position reports to the Project Manager.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMust be able to report to our Coweta office and available for travel and overnight stays all over Oklahoma.Maintain knowledge of all organizational policies and governmental lawsEnsures all installation work is done according to quality standardsAccess the fiber optic splicer enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from ladderPrep, tray and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to 864 count, and perform ring cut when neededInstall fiber optic cables, coaxial cables and CAT 5/6 cables. Identify and document all cables and boxes correctly.Ability to splice single splices and ribbon fiber along with ribbonize fiber and de-ribbonPerform testing and turn-ups of subscriber drops in both inside and outside plant environmentPlanning and acquiring supply needsRead, understand, and updated building drawingsRunning of phone and data cables, including fiber optic, audio, video, and security camera cablingAccurately OTDR test fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certificationTerminate, assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors and coaxial connectorsTest, diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problemsMaintain and reference industry standards including ANSI,EIAITIA and local and Low Voltage CodeDetermine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosuresWork safely at all times utilizing the necessary Personal Protection EquipmentPerform administrative tasks including, but not limited to, documenting test results and as-built, maintaining log books, providing labor summary reports, etc.Ability to properly instruct other technicians on techniques, works, etc. as needed to keep project work flowingPossess a high level of independent judgment within established proceduresPerform other duties as requested by supervisorKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESStrong knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss, connector types, and the different types of fibersFull knowledge of operating fiber optic splicing equipmentDemonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and building plans, document daily records and reports, and hours workedDemonstrated ability to use and care for fiber optic test equipment, ruby light, power meter, and OTDR and document test results accuratelyAbility to complete designated amount of work in a specified time frame (e. g., quality jobs per day), adjusting work assignments or schedules to meet changing work-related priorities or demands.Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g., from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feetAbility to work in confined spaces (e. g., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes)Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to: lifting objects weighing over 70 poundsAbility to perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (e. g., extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather)When working aloft, employee's weight and tools combined may not exceed the 280-pound weight limit as specified by the manufacturerAbility to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, contractors, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional mannerDemonstrated sound judgment and decision makingCritical thinking and complex problem solvingReporting and prioritizing workloadsHandling multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentMaintaining organized and accurate recordsWorking independently with minimal supervisionBasic knowledge of MS Office Suite or equivalent software such as Google Docs and SheetsKnowledge of basic mathematicsBend/squat/kneel/stand frequentlySafely using weight-bearing equipment (such as safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipmentDemonstrating a high level of maturity and leadershipAbility to deal with ambiguity, work in a dynamic fluid environment and effectively cope with changeAbility to pass pre-employment screenings (motor vehicle, drug, and background)EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAssociate's Degree or equivalent work experienceValid Driver's license with satisfactory driving record1-3 years experience installing and maintaining fiber optic products and servicesCertified Fiber Optic Technician certification preferredCertified as a BICSI Technician or similar certification preferredWORKING CONDITIONSMay be required to work long and unpredictable hours including nights and weekends with travel.Working outdoors in all types of weatherExposure to dust, fluctuating temperatures, and periodic high noise levelsCherokee Fiber & Associates is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
