Full Time | Permanent
Location: McNeil Island, WA
Salary Range: $6,836 - $7,930 Monthly
This position is represented by the Teamsters 117 bargaining unit. This position requires daily in-facility work at McNeil Island.
Correctional Industries (CI) is dedicated to expanding incarcerated worker training programs that build marketable skills, promote strong work ethics, and reduce the overall tax burden of corrections. The CI Marine Operations team is seeking a skilled and motivated Shipwright to join our team at McNeil Island.
In this role, you will ensure the safe, reliable maintenance and repair of marine vessels and shoreside infrastructure. This includes vessels, docks, floats, gangways, fendering systems, lighting, and dry-dock equipment—work that is critical to daily operations and transportation to and from the island.
As a Shipwright, you will plan, direct, and inspect the work of incarcerated individuals while actively participating in hands-on marine and structural repairs. Your expertise will be applied across a wide range of tasks, including repair of steel, aluminum, and fiberglass hulls and superstructures; painting and finishing; window and seating repairs; canvas work; lighting and insulation; joinery; hardware and rigging; and the inspection and maintenance of firefighting and lifesaving equipment.
Daily work may also involve setting up and breaking down scaffolding, staging, and environmental containment systems as needed. You will perform carpentry and concrete work, fabricate or repair metal components, replace and repair dock and float equipment, and complete general plumbing repairs.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the Department of Corrections' mission to improve public safety by ensuring dependable marine transportation to and from McNeil Island. Just as importantly, you will help reduce recidivism by teaching valuable trade skills, modeling pro-social behavior, and fostering a positive, productive work environment while supervising incarcerated workers.
A completed application packet will include: a cover letter regarding your interest in this position with our agency, a detailed resume, and three professional references.
