Position Summary Grifols Laboratory Solutions in San Marcos, TX is seeking a Senior Manager, Lab Testing. The Senior Manager, Lab Testing manages the day‑to‑day operations of the laboratory to ensure optimal laboratory performance and compliance with the current requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies. The role provides overall technical leadership, expertise, and support in the areas of validation, laboratory instrumentation and technologies, develops, oversees and maintains a validated production environment, and may lead project teams on business and technical projects. The Manager is also a technical expert on at least one area of laboratory knowledge (molecular / IRL / other). Responsibilities Interview and hire new employees, maintain appropriate staffing levels, review and approve employee time cards and time‑off requests Train new employees, perform competency assessments, and monitor staff performance Evaluate and counsel personnel, make recommendations regarding termination, promotion/demotion, and salary changes Manage schedules to meet laboratory workload demands and evaluate laboratory processes to maximize efficiency and productivity Develop, write and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) as they pertain to the department Create equipment, assay and process validation protocols, identify critical control points, and manage the execution of validation protocols Ensure strict adherence to SOPs, regulatory requirements and company policies Assess laboratory equipment needs, oversee inventory of reagents and supplies, and order items as necessary to maintain productivity Resolve deviations, perform investigations, root‑cause analysis and troubleshoot assay or equipment failures Actively participate in lab management and training programs Serve as a delegate to the Laboratory Director for day‑to‑day activities Maintain technical competency through attendance at continuing education events Promote teamwork, positive employee morale and retention, and maintain laboratory organization and appearance Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with cross‑functional teams Identify, document, communicate and resolve problems within standardized procedures Assume responsibilities delegated by the Laboratory Director as required Qualifications MD with certification in blood banking/transfusion medicine, SBB(ASCP), CHS(ABHI), or advanced degree (PhD preferred) in related science (biology, chemistry, genomics) Eight years of experience in a molecular testing laboratory, including a minimum of three years of supervisory experience Expert knowledge of molecular methodologies Strong presentation and classroom management skills Proficiency in MS Office Suite Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to communicate with staff and management at all levels Education MD with certification in blood banking/transfusion medicine, SBB(ASCP), CHS(ABHI), or advanced degree (PhD preferred) in related science (biology, chemistry, genomics). Experience Eight years of experience in a molecular testing laboratory, including a minimum of three years of supervisory experience. Equivalency Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Occupational Demands Work is performed in both a lab and an office environment. The position requires frequent sitting (4‑6 hours per day), occasional walking, bending, twisting neck, and light to moderate lifting and carrying of objects up to 25 lb. Some occasional travel within the United States may be required. The role involves communicating complex information clearly and applying abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.
