Lead Java Developer

Salary: $120,000 - 160,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree required; candidates without a bachelors degree must have four additional years of relevant experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on core Java development.
• Healthcare or insurance experience, including claims.
• Proven experience with backend cloud deployment and containerization using AWS and Kubernetes.
• Experience with relational databases, specifically Oracle, and build/CI tools such as Jenkins.
• Experience with source control, issue tracking, and CI/CD pipelines, including Git, Jenkins, and Jira.
• Ability to work autonomously, quickly learn complex proprietary codebases, and independently deliver features.
• Preferred: Knowledge of healthcare insurance, particularly health claims processing, adjudication, or vouchering systems.
• Preferred: Familiarity with backend integration patterns connecting Java services to Salesforce environments.
• Preferred: Exposure to microservices architecture and automated CI/CD deployment pipelines.
• This is a W-2 contract role; C2C and 1099 arrangements are not accepted. Candidates using C2C, H-1B, OPT-EAD, CPT, or H-1T are not eligible for submission.

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance proprietary backend Java applications for claims pre-adjudication, post-adjudication, and vouchering workflows.
• Take technical ownership of feature development, code enhancements, incremental functionality updates, and defect resolution.
• Work with AWS-hosted cloud systems and Kubernetes container management and deployment workflows.
• Integrate backend Java services with Salesforce application touchpoints and Oracle databases.
• Independently investigate issues and perform root-cause analysis in production and non-production environments.
• Participate in an off-hours weekday support rotation approximately once per month to help maintain 24/7 claims processing availability.

We are seeking a Lead Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team supporting critical claims processing systems for the Federal Employee Program (FEP). You will work with system engineering leadership to maintain, enhance, and scale our in-house enterprise claims platform in an AWS environment. This is a 12-month W-2 contract with a hybrid schedule requiring in-person group meetings at least twice per month. Candidates from the DMV area are strongly preferred, though we will consider applicants from outside the area. The final-round interview will take place at Merriweather.
