Props Designer for Winter Youth Musical Theatre Program Greater Boston Stage Company

Please note, you pre-program planning and strike are mandatory. Each production team is limited to Responsibilities of the Props Designer: Collaborate with the artistic staff to achieve the best product and highest quality possible, in keeping with the theatre’s intended high standards of production Ensure that all students and interns receive a rewarding, enjoyable and safe educational experience during their time at the program Procure props and set dressings for the production, under the supervision of the Scenic Designer and within the parameters of budget and schedule Participate in design and production meetings with other production staff Prepare a Props List in collaboration with the production team of each title Coordinate rehearsal props with Stage Management and provide rehearsal props early in the rehearsal process. All rehearsal props that do not serve as show props will need to be removed from the rehearsal rooms when the actors transition to tech onstage and returned to their proper storage location. Coordinate all purchasing, borrowing, renting, or building of all hand props, furniture and set dressings as requested by the Director and Scenic Designer. Coordinate all pick-ups and drop-offs of borrowed or rented items. Regularly review rehearsal and performance reports and address relevant notes on a daily basis by phone or e-mail to the Stage Manager once rehearsals start. Be in residence at the theater for a mutually agreed upon part of the technical rehearsal period and attend post-tech production meetings. To attend strike on the closing performance of the show and return all properties to their proper place at the conclusion of the run, including all borrowed and rented properties. Qualifications: Applicants must have experience working as a Props Designer; experience working with theatre educators and students strongly preferred. Applicants should be strong collaborators, communicators, problem-solvers and organizers. Applicants should be able to balance an inclusive educational rehearsal process and a high-quality theatrical production. Applicants should be able to remain punctual, reliable, and flexible throughout the festival process. Completed or ongoing pursuit of training in theatre or education a plus. Must pass CORI & SORI background checks.
