Regional Underwriting Director

Overview Directs the day‑to‑day operations of the Underwriting Department in Georgia and Florida, developing and implementing policies and procedures for the department. Responsibilities Working with Senior Management to develop underwriting strategies Assessing and developing underwriting operational plans and ensuring integration with broader strategies Developing and implementing goals, objectives and work standards for the Underwriting Department Applying policies and procedures that comply with regulatory guidelines, rules and standards Partnering with other departments to align underwriting tactics with industry standards Creating and refining underwriting guidelines to support company requirements Cooperating with Senior and Executive Management regarding departmental requirements and solutions; facilitating problem resolution and development of new initiatives to support the business Managing a supervisory team, delegating tasks, managing workflow and staffing requirements Responsible for salary administration Interviewing candidates, making hiring decisions, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback and managing disciplinary actions Coaching and mentoring staff and providing development opportunities Ensuring teams and individuals understand roles and responsibilities via clear communication of goals and objectives Meeting with team members on performance measurements, goals and evaluations Training the underwriting team to ensure integrity of underwriting activities and processes Qualifications Demonstrated competency in executing strategic plans Experience in risk management and assisting underwriters on complex applications Knowledge of state laws and regulations affecting insurance practice (Legal and Regulatory Environment) Understanding of insurance finance, accounting and actuarial concepts and their application in the insurance industry (Finance and Actuarial Concepts) Ability to learn the needs of a wide range of employees while driving team performance, monitoring results and allocating resources appropriately Broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in underwriting to complete complex projects Experience with functional tools and infrastructure Progressive experience leading employees in multiple locations and significant experience developing and implementing solutions Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degree preferred Eight or more years of progressive management experience; 8‑10 years of directly related experience Solid underwriting background and proven success establishing, leading and maintaining effective relationships at the Middle and Senior Management level Pay Range $148,600.00 – $198,200.00 annually (base pay).
