The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care while maintaining professional accountability for assigned patients. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and coordinates patient care collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. This position upholds patient rights, maintains confidentiality, and performs all duties in alignment with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.

Position Details:

Provides care for a diverse population of critically ill patients in a 26-bed intensive care unit, including medical/surgical, cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, infectious disease/sepsis, hepato-renal, endocrine, behavioral health, trauma, neurosurgical, cardiovascular surgery, and reconstructive surgery populations requiring complex assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced interventions.

Role Details:

• Performs comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for critically ill patients.
• Interprets laboratory, diagnostic, and hemodynamic data to guide clinical decision-making and escalation of care.
• Safely administers and titrates continuous intravenous medications, including vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, and antiarrhythmic infusions.
• Manages patients requiring mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care, optimize outcomes, and support patients and families.
• Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition and emergency situations.
  -Promotes patient safety, quality outcomes, and clinical excellence.

Advanced Therapies & Device Management
Opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in the care of patients requiring advanced critical care therapies and devices, including:

• Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
• Impella
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
• Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE)
• Swan-Ganz (Pulmonary Artery) Catheters
• Arterial Lines
• Central Venous Catheters
• Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring
• External Ventricular Drains (EVD)
• Intracranial Pressure (ICP) Monitoring
• Temporary Pacemakers
• TSTAT
  

Qualifications:

Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (associate's degree, Diploma, or BSN).

Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.

One or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe:

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - within 30 days of hire
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
