Medical Insights Director

What you will do

As a strategic leader within the Medical Data & Analytics organization, the Medical Insights Director will serve as a trusted thought partner and strategic consultant to Therapeutic Area Field and Home-Office Medical leadership. This role will shape insight generation across multiple therapeutic areas by translating complex data, scientific priorities, and business questions into actionable recommendations that inform field medical strategy, scientific engagement, operational excellence, and patient-focused decision-making. The Director will lead a team of US-based analysts and coordinate closely with the Amgen India delivery team to deliver high-impact analytics, advanced insights, and AI-enabled solutions that elevate Medical organization’s ability to make timely, evidence-based decisions.

This position reports to the Executive Director, Medical Data and Analytics team.

Responsibilities

• Serve as strategic analytics thought partner to Therapeutic Area Field Medical and Medical Strategy leaders, framing ambiguous business and scientific questions, pressure-testing hypotheses, and translating insights into clear strategic choices and recommendations.
• Lead the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of insight capabilities across the Field Medical organization, including advanced analytics, AI/ML applications, and scalable insight frameworks.
• Own the customer universe and omnichannel targeting framework, ensuring outputs are strategically aligned, KPI impact driven, operationally actionable, and responsive to evolving therapeutic area priorities.
• Lead a high-performing team of US-based analysts while coordinating delivery across the Amgen India team, setting priorities, building capabilities, coaching talent, and ensuring consistent quality, speed, and strategic relevance of analytics deliverables.
• Drive cross-functional engagement with Global Field Medical Excellence, SciComms, US Strategy & Performance, medical strategy teams, data science partners, and other stakeholders to deliver an integrated, enterprise-ready insights capability.
• Lead strategic initiatives and AI-enabled business solutions across the full lifecycle, from business problem definition and prioritization through solution design, user acceptance, implementation, adoption, and post-launch optimization.
• Design and facilitate insight-driven forums, including Quarterly Medical Reviews, that move leadership discussions beyond reporting toward implications, trade-offs, decisions, and measurable action.
• Advance the analytics organization’s capabilities by identifying emerging methods, new data sources, external best practices, and fit-for-purpose tools that improve strategic insight generation and decision support.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Data Science, Computer Science/Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Insights Generation, Engineering (any), Science (any), Statistics or related field experience

OR

Master’s degree and 8 years of Data Science, Computer Science/Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Insights Generation, Engineering (any), Science (any), Statistics or related field experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Data Science, Computer Science/Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Insights Generation, Engineering (any), Science (any), Statistics or related field experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic consultant to senior medical leaders, bringing structure to ambiguous business questions, synthesizing complex information, and converting data into implications, decisions, and action.
• Strong critical thinking, conceptual problem-solving, and executive judgment, with the ability to see the broader strategic context while managing practical execution details.
• Biotechnology or pharmaceutical secondary data and analytics experience across therapeutic areas, including national/subnational analytics, HCP and patient-level analysis, site-of-care insights, field targeting, and omnichannel engagement frameworks.
• Experience applying advanced analytical methods, including scenario planning, predictive modeling, randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, matched case-control approaches, and fit-for-purpose data models aligned to business needs.
• Proven leadership presence and influence with senior stakeholders, including the ability to establish credibility, navigate competing perspectives, negotiate priorities, and drive alignment across matrixed teams.
• Track record leading, coaching, and developing high-performing analytics talent, including distributed onshore and offshore delivery models.
• Passion for insight generation and data storytelling, with the ability to communicate complex analyses in a concise, compelling way that shapes leadership decisions.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
