Job purpose
The Heavy Equipment and Forklift Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting agricultural, construction, and material handling equipment, including tractors, skid steers, forklifts, telehandlers, and other heavy machinery. This position ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and manufacturer standards.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on farm equipment, forklifts, and other heavy machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Repair and replace engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brakes, steering components, and electrical systems.
- Conduct equipment inspections and identify safety concerns or maintenance needs.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline-powered equipment.
- Complete work orders, maintenance records, and inspection reports accurately and timely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and service vehicle.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Communicate equipment status, repair recommendations, and parts needs to supervisors and customers.
- Operate equipment safely for testing and verification of repairs.
- Assist with field service calls as needed.
- Preform any other tasks as required by the Manager
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent,
- Technical school training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or related field preferred.
- Valid driver license, with good driving record
- Forklift operator’s license/certification
- Physical requirements
Knowledge
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
- In depth mechanical knowledge of material handling products
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic procedures.

Working environment
While performing this duty, the employee will be exposed to noisy shop environment. When performing the duties of this job, it is a requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment whenever necessary.
Physical requirements
While performing this duty, the employee will be required to frequently sit, walk, talk, and listen. The employee is required to frequently use hands to fingers, handle, feel objects or controls to include products we service, computer, and other office equipment. The employee must often stand, kneel, bend over, walk, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee will be exposed to hazardous materials, i.e., grease, fuel, pressured gas, and/or oil. The employee will be required to kneel, sit, stand, and lay on hard surfaces, i.e., concrete and/or asphalt. Appropriate material handling equipment should be used to lift or move items that are heavy or bulky. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
