Registered Nurse - Patient Safety Manager

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Overview The Cincinnati VHA Medical Center is seeking a Patient Safety Manager Registered Nurse (RN). The RN will execute responsibilities demonstrating beginning leadership skills and will have participated in leadership experiences; preferred experience in leadership roles. They will demonstrate creative approaches to the management of program aspects of complex patient care. Qualifications English language proficiency – proficient in basic written and spoken English, as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accredited agency (ACEN or CCNE), or completion of an equivalent master’s level bridge program with a bachelor’s level degree in Nursing. State license in full, active, and unrestricted status in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception for candidates who meet educational requirements but are not yet licensed; may be appointed on a 120‑day temporary basis while pursuing licensure. Grade determination criteria aligned with scope, education, and dimension requirements (e.g., ADN/Diploma, BSN, MSN, or related master’s). Physical requirements include moderate lifting, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and use of safe patient‑handling protocols; ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Requires adequate vision and hearing, and proficiency in body‑mechanics during lifting. Duties Lead implementation of patient‑safety policies and activities developed by the National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS). Build and maintain patient‑safety systems and promote a culture of safety within VA facilities. Provide direct support to the development, maintenance, and operation of the VHA patient‑safety process at the facility level. Lead workforce education, orientation, and competency training related to the patient‑safety program. Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) team activities, including coordination with team members and recorders. Lead a facility‑wide program across all services to meet National Directives requirements. Validate understanding of care‑process rationales and question clinical practices to promote evidence‑based care. Continuously evaluate the program, collecting and submitting facility performance measures. Report to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS) and comply with supervisory controls.
