As the only academic medical center in the Intermountain West, we perform the entire gamut of cardiothoracic surgery (nearly 1000 cases/year) including a large program in advanced heart failure, mechanical support, and thoracic transplantation. Our Division is team-focused and is a central training hub for Thoracic Surgery residents and PAs for the region. Responsibilities Full perioperative scope of practice Shared floor responsibilities Shared ICU responsibilities Chest tube placement and removal Arterial line and central line placement as needed Endoscopic vein and Radial artery harvesting Assist as need in all aspects of surgery Outpatient care coordination as needed Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians. Performs physical examinations. Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures. Orders and supervises the administration of blood products. Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions. Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences. Assists in the collection of data for research projects. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams. Participates in special projects and committee functions. Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead. Minimum Qualifications Required: Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah. Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. Preferred Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
