Street Maintenance Worker I

Summary:

This position performs manual labor duties of a semi-skilled nature. Work is performed under direct supervision of the street supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates city vehicles.
• Loads and unloads trucks, separate and empty bags and remove trash from yard debris.
• Maintains city maintenance yard by cutting and trimming of grass and weeds, picking up litter or other objects.
• Moves furniture or other heavy material and equipment.
• Wash, polish, and assist in servicing city vehicles and equipment.
• Removes obstructions such as trees and brush from right-of-ways.
• Assists other divisions and performs other semi-skilled and unskilled work as directed.
• Performs janitorial duties such as sweeping and cleaning shop floors, breaks room, and bathrooms.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in labor type work.
• Sufficient physical strength to perform heavy labor work.
• Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid Florida driver's license.

A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in precarious places and may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
