POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Split Shift Before & After School Assistant Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the before and after-school Extended Care program. This position ensures a safe, engaging, and positive environment for students while supervising staff, communicating with families, and maintaining program compliance with district and state guidelines.

REPORTING

Reports To: Extended Care Coordinator and Director of Student Activities

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in education, child development, recreation, or related field preferred. Previous experience working with school-age children required. Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a positive and professional environment. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Must successfully complete required background checks. Ability to manage a small staff. Flexibility. Willingness to participate in training opportunities presented by the Student Activities Director and Mason City Schools (this includes CPR certifications and Vector Online Trainings). Ability to work well within a team. Assist with needs from the Student Activities Department as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and manage all aspects of the before and after-school Extended Care program. Plan and coordinate age-appropriate activities, enrichment opportunities, and student engagement. Ensure the safety, well-being, and supervision of all students at all times. Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate program staff. Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and program records. Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and administration regarding student needs and program updates. Monitor student behavior and implement positive behavior management strategies. Ensure compliance with school district policies, licensing requirements, and safety procedures. Manage program supplies, equipment, and budget needs. Open and close the program facility in accordance with established procedures. Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Activities Director. Terms of Employment: Evaluation 198 Days Salary as defined by the Board. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
