School Principal

1. Create a safe student-centered environment
2. Direct the appropriate use of financial, physical and human resources toward achievement of vision and goals
3. Manage and prioritize budget to ensure instructional, operational and fiscal responsibilities of vision and goals
4. Use data to identify areas of improvement and monitor performance
5. Set performance improvement targets for students and staff
6. Collaborate with staff in creating a School Improvement Plan
7. Establish a professional learning community within the school
8. Effectively delegate responsibility of tasks and decisions
9. Actively engage in community activities
10. Support and encourage school/business/community partnerships
11. Report to the Superintendent about parent concerns not settled at the building level
12. Report, in writing, to the Superintendent about suspensions of students and/or serious injury to students and/or staff
13. Submit to the Superintendent weekly staff agendas, parent letters, community announcements, and school newsletters
14. Perform other responsibilities as necessary or as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee

Qualifications

1. State of Illinois Type 75 Administrative License
2. Five years successful teaching experience
3. Three to five years successful administrative experience
4. A proven track record of increased student achievement
5. A deep knowledge of change, theory and organizational development

Improving Teaching and Learning The school leader works with the school staff and community to develop a research-based framework for effective teaching and learning that is continuously refined to improve instruction for all students. The school leader: A. develops, in collaboration with staff, a consistent framework for effective teaching and learning that includes a rigorous and relevant standards-based curriculum, research-based instructional practices, and high expectations for student performance B. establishes a continuous improvement cycle that uses multiple forms of data and student work samples to support individual, team, and school-wide improvement goals, identify and address target areas for improvement, measure outcomes and celebrate successes C. ensures that differentiated instructional practices which address identified student needs are implemented with fidelity D. selects and retains teachers with the expertise to deliver instruction that maximizes student learning and respects the individual needs of all students E. evaluates the effectiveness of instruction and of individual teachers by conducting frequent formal and informal observations and provides timely, specific feedback on instruction as part of the district teacher appraisal system F. ensures the development of high performing instructional teacher teams by providing training and support grounded in best practices which are designed to advance student learning and the individual performance of each student G. develops systems and structures for professional development and teacher collaboration that provide and protect time allotted for development H. advances instructional technology within the learning environment I. ensures that professional growth plans are linked to data derived from school improvement plan results and teacher evaluations IV.
