JOB SUMMARY:
Obtains specimens from patients and performs established clinical tests and procedures. Performs complex tests on other body fluids, such as: biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, microscopic, and bacteriological tests. Analyzes samples for chemical content or reaction, determine concentrations of compounds, and type and cross match samples for blood transfusions. Interprets test results. Performs instrument and equipment maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
Obtains specimens from patients.
- Reviews and follows requests for tests and procedures prescribed by providers.
- Draws and processes specimens promptly in compliance with established procedures.
- Identifies and labels specimens properly.
- Provides care and adjusts for age specific needs.
Performs routine and special medical laboratory tests.
- Follows established procedures for routine lab testing.
- Follows the established procedures when performing chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urine analysis, bacteria cultures, blood bank, or serology tests or procedures.
- Follows quality control procedures for all tests.
Prepares test reports and maintains permanent records.
- Reviews accuracy of results before reporting.
- Checks validity by evaluation of quality control data, previous tests, and duplicate testing.
- Reports panic values to supervisor and the appropriate physician.
- Records all work completed and maintains workload information on work completed.
Maintains instruments and equipment.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance.
- Reports equipment problems to supervisor immediately.
- Maintains logs and other documentation.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Licensure, Registry, Certification:
1. Registered by ASCP, AMT, ISLCT, or HEW
Personal Job related skills:
- 1. Knowledge of medical laboratory collection, testing, and use of equipment.
- 2. Knowledge of quality control policies, state and federal regulations of laboratory.
- 3. Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
- 4. Maintain discretion and confidentiality in communications.
Experience:
Prior Work Experience:
- 1. One year prior medical laboratory experience preferred.
Technical Training:
- 1. None required.
