Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and driven Geotechnical and Structural Engineer to support civil and structural engineering reviews for proposed and under-construction liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities regulated by the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The successful candidate will perform technical evaluations of geotechnical investigations, structural design documents, and foundation systems to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and best engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Review front-end and final design documentation for civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering aspects of LNG facilities.
- Evaluate engineering calculations, drawings, and reports to verify compliance with applicable codes (e.g., NFPA 59A, ASCE/SEI 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, etc.).
- Assess site-specific geologic and natural hazard studies and structural system responses to dynamic loads.
- Prepare technical reviews, environmental input, and engineering information requests (EIRs) in support of FERC staff.
- Provide documented assessments of design adequacy and safety-related concerns.
- Attend technical meetings and site visits with project applicants and FERC representatives.
- Support preparation of Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), and other regulatory filings.
- Advise on post-authorization design implementation and provide technical support for changed conditions during construction.
- Prepare monthly reports and participate in emergency response evaluations when required.
- Serve as an expert witness for civil structural matters in federal hearings when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical and Structural Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and certification).
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required; Structural Engineer (SE) license is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in civil geotechnical and structural engineering for industrial infrastructure, preferably LNG or other cryogenic facilities.
- Proven experience with U.S. engineering codes and standards including but not limited to: NFPA 59A, API 620/625, ASCE, ACI, AISC, IBC, ASTM.
- Familiarity with federal regulations such as 49 CFR 193 and 18 CFR 380.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide leadership in high-level engineering evaluations.
- Willingness to travel within the U.S. for inspections, technical meetings, and emergency response (as needed).
- U.S. Citizenship or legal work authorization required; ability to pass federal background checks and sign NDA agreements.
