About the Position

Job Title: CT Tech Profession: CT Tech Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 months Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology; less than 1 year experience in CT preferred License: ARRT Radiography Certifications: ARRT Computed Tomography; Basic Life Support Must-Have: - Excellent communication skills - Ability to function independently and under pressure - Detail oriented with the ability to multitask - Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing exams according to procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to obtain quality diagnostic studies safely. Responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures. Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique for the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy. Verifies proper clinician order for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for administering contrast media. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies the correct identity of patients using two unique identifiers prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated. Maintains patient dignity throughout the exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedules, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician’s instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection. Uses critical thinking skills. Dialogs with patients and families, asks clarifying questions, and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes. Demonstrates and understands pre-and post-procedural care. Preps patients for procedures. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Patiently explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients prior to starting procedures to minimize anxiety. Ensures patient questions, concerns, or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Documentation is concise, legible, and includes precise terminology. Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education. Consistently produces acceptable images, evidenced by feedback and quality audits. Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each use. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed. Completes all studies in the system before finalizing in PACS. Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition. Transports patients, positions them, and assists them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices and equipment. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others when needed. Performs routine clerical and support duties as warranted to ensure continuity and quality of services. Keeps supervisors informed on all responsibilities, ensuring prompt notification of any problems. Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to co-workers. Operates all workstations associated with the CT department. Maintains Joint Commission standards and any regulatory agency standards. Takes on-call duties when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
