Salary: $35 Hourly

Summary of the Position

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing medical care to children, completing telephone calls with results, managing clinic supply needs, administrative duties and any other duties as assigned. In the role of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, they will be responsible conducting sexual abuse evaluations for children suspected of having been abused in compliance with the National Childrens Alliance Standards for Accredited Members. The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner reports directly to the Medical Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Responsible for cleaning and stocking exam rooms, organizing, stocking and tracking supplies, and lab collection.
• Assist with scheduling and completing documentation for appointments as assigned.
• Conduct medical evaluation, care and treatment for children of suspected sexual abuse as directed by protocol. This is to include accurate and complete documentation of clinical services, follow-ups, laboratory specimens, and phone calls.
• Documentation of the medical evaluation, findings and recommendations in the case record and providing a written report to the referring agency in a routine, timely and meaningful manner.
• Hair testing for drug exposure will be completed as directed by USDTL. This will include being responsible for managing hair test forms, logs, and coordination of sending and receiving results.
• Routinely participates in case review to continue ongoing learning and education and to ensure that medical evaluations are being conducted under the circumstances of best practice and as outlined in the MDT protocols.
• Participate in ongoing peer review through the Midwest Regional Childrens Advocacy Center and consults with the Medical Director on all examinations with findings that are deemed abnormal or diagnostic of trauma from sexual abuse.
• Will testify as subpoenaed on the medical evaluation and findings.
• Work with multidisciplinary team and foster open and positive relationships with law enforcement, Children and Family Services and the prosecuting attorney while promoting best practices for child abuse investigation, prosecution, and treatment in Southeast Nebraska.
• Help with any needed coordination of care with families, investigators, and community providers.
• Ensure culturally competent services are provided to all families we serve without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
• Read and comply with the policies and procedures of First LIght Child Advocacy Center as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

First Light employees are provided the opportunity to gain specialized training and grow their professional skills within the child welfare field. Employees are encouraged to attend local, regional and national conferences. The Registered Nurse

must demonstrate continuing education in the field of child abuse consisting of a minimum of eight contact hours every two years as outlined in the National Childrens Alliance Standards.

Qualifications

Education:
Registered Nurse degree from an accredited educational institution.
Currently licensed in Nebraska as a Registered Nurse.
Attain Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), pediatric and adolescent, training after hire if not held prior.

Experience:
Zero to three years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Clinic experience and working with pediatric patients preferred. Some training and experience in the child welfare system, and working within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), desired but not required.

OTHER

All employees must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid drivers license and provide proof of insurance. All employees must submit to a criminal history background check prior to being hired and annually at the time of their performance evaluation.
