Cardiac Surgery APP- Stanford Health Care-Tri Valley (NP/PA)

Position Summary The role is a heavy OR, inpatient, and clinic position for an advanced practice provider (APP). The candidate will work six 12‑hour shifts and one 8‑hour shift per two‑week cycle, participate in clinic for 2–2½ days, and rotate through ICU, Step‑Down Unit, and TAVR days. Duties include assisting with a wide range of cardiac and thoracic procedures such as conduit harvesting, congenital heart disease, aortic aneurysm, coronary artery disease, lung and esophageal cancer, mitral valve disease, thoracic trauma, and endoscopic vein harvesting. The annual case volume for EVH is 100–150. Location & Schedule Campus Location: 5555 W. Las Positas Blvd. Pleasanton, California Schedule: OR any day of the week 2½ day clinic days, TAVR day 1 8‑hour shift every two weeks 6 12‑hour shifts within a two‑week period Call: 24/7 call split evenly among the team (details provided by hiring manager) Compensation 1 weeknight every two weeks: $500 per pay period 1 weekend (Friday–Sunday) every nine weekends: $2,100 per call weekend Base differential for hours worked while on call at hourly rate plus night/weekend differential Holidays on call: $800 per day (1–2 holidays per year) Call pay is eligible after a 3‑6 month probationary period with demonstrated competency. Key Responsibilities Serve as a first or second assistant in cardiac and thoracic surgeries Assist with patient positioning, draping, suturing, and tissue handling Prepare surgical instruments and equipment Assist with setup and breakdown of the OR Support the surgeon during minimally invasive procedures Collaborate with the surgical team for safe and efficient procedures Maintain accurate patient records Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols Qualifications Minimum one year of operating room and clinical experience Experience as a first or second assistant essential; EVH preferred Current CPR and BLS certification Strong understanding of sterile techniques and infection control Excellent communication and teamwork skills Will consider NP with RNFA experience Additional PA Responsibilities As required, the APP may perform the following duties traditionally associated with a Physician Assistant under an approved supervising physician: Evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns Obtain complete histories and perform physical examinations Order and evaluate diagnostic studies Administer medications per formulary protocol or per supervising physician approval Order and collect specimens for laboratory and therapeutic tests Order therapy services (physical, occupational, respiratory, radiology) Perform designated procedures after demonstrating competency Obtain informed consent Coordinate hospital admissions, discharges, and investigations Assist supervising physician in the OR as first or second assistant Recognize emergencies and initiate life‑saving procedures Facilitate inpatient and outpatient coordination and community resources Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and policy procedures Participate in quality improvement initiatives Provide patient education and counseling Education & Licensure Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university For PAs hired before July 1 2012: no bachelor requirement; must have PA program accredited by ARC‑PA Physician Assistant state licensure Basic Life Support certification Drug Enforcement Administration registration Equal Opportunity Statement Stanford Health Care (SHC) strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity and non‑discrimination in all its policies and practices, including employment.
