Position Overview Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (Part-Time) #W0009: Pocahontas State Correctional Center State Role Title: Licensed Practical Nurse Hiring Range: #37.00/hour Pay Band: 3 Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin Location: Pocahontas State Corr Ctr Job Duties Licensed Practical Nurses provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process and general nursing principles under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Duties include screening for sick call, administering medications, providing first aid and basic life support, and maintaining open communication with security and treatment staff. Nurses record all pertinent information in the medical record, interact with other departments as needed, promote ongoing competence through education and certification in correctional nursing, and are available to provide coverage and fulfill additional duties or locations as required. This wage position is limited to no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12‑month period of May 1 – April 30, with an average of no more than 29 hours per week. No state benefits are provided. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license or a multi‑state compact license; recent graduates must schedule and pass the NCLEX‑PN exam Working knowledge of principles and practices of practical or general nursing care Ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer cases to medical professionals Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and perform treatment orders Ability to follow oral and written instructions and administer practical nursing care Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) with current certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross upon hire Additional Considerations Experience working in a corrections or law‑enforcement environment Experience or related training in the delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care Compensation and Benefits This is a wage position limited to no more than 1,500 hours during the 12‑month period of May 1 – April 30. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year, with a limit of no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12‑month period.
