Part Time Faculty - Journalism

Overview The Journalism Program at Loyola Marymount University seeks lecturers to teach undergraduate courses in reporting, news writing, feature writing, sports journalism, investigative journalism, photo journalism, audio journalism, broadcast television, and video journalism. The appointment is typically one semester, teaching one to two courses, usually once weekly in the evenings to accommodate working journalists. Responsibilities Prepare and distribute a course syllabus. Prepare and lead class sessions. Hold regular office hours and answer student questions. Develop, distribute, and grade discussion materials, homework, quizzes, and other course materials. Grade midterm examinations and student stories. Maintain and timely submit class records (attendance and grade reports). Attend meetings and training as required. Comply with all university standards and requirements. Qualifications Working journalist (staff or freelance) or full‑time journalism educator. Master’s degree in journalism or a doctorate in a related field (preferred). Teaching or mentorship experience preferred. Strong knowledge of ethical journalism principles. Clear sense of the American media landscape and a commitment to the value of journalism in a free and democratic society. Compensation Minimum salary: $2,517 per unit taught.
