Duties

Help

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Frames, installs, and repairs structures such as walls, acoustic panels, wall protection, partitions, floors, ceiling types, cabinets and similar architectural elements.
• Uses a variety of carpentry tools and materials.
• Repairs structural and finish components affected by a variety of conditions, such as water intrusion, leaks, flooding, moisture exposure, impact damage, wear, or deterioration.
• Repairs and replaces drywall, ceilings, flooring, trim, cabinetry, framing, and similar building elements.
• Performs structural maintenance and repairs.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on exterior building envelope components that manage water flow, such as gutters, downspouts, flashing, roofing systems, and water-exposed architectural features.
• Maintains work logs, completes required forms, and communicates statuses or issues to supervisors or team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements : You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination. Physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes, and shapes. Strain related to lack of movement such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time. Considerable walking, crawling, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching and working overhead for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment repeatedly often exceeding 50 pounds weight. Items such as lumber, sheet rock, scaffolding, equipment, doors, steel frames, etc.

Work Environment: Incumbent is exposed to heat, restricted ventilation and poor illumination in areas such as equipment rooms; all weather conditions when working outside (parking areas, roof, etc.). Exposed to varying climatic conditions from an office to environmentally controlled space, to excessive heat such as in the boiler plant. May come in contact with various hazardous materials while performing work assignments. He/She is provided with protective clothing, equipment and safety devices for his personal protection. The equipment. rooms are above the normal decibel rating and hearing protection is provided. Hazardous gases/fumes are in the work environment during various tasks. Respiratory protection is provided for the incumbent. Incumbent is at risk of injury from falls, burns, bruises and cuts. Incumbent works on tall ladders and scaffolds using dangerous power tools. Incumbent works in crowded areas and around moving machinery. Incumbent is also required to work in patient areas which are contaminated with various diseases including HIV, TB, and is issued personal protective equipment/clothing to be worn.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
