PWDF is a small nonprofit agency in San Francisco that provides education and advocacy for people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities so they can achieve equal opportunities in all aspects of life. Compensation: $78,000 – $82,000 annual base range for fulltime (35 hours per week), depending on experience, plus benefits. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, vacation, and Commuter Checks according to agency policy, effective after 90 days, and holidays.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position is to assist the Executive Director (ED). The DED reports to the ED.

Duties: Under the supervision of the ED, the DED is to be able to perform all ED duties:

(1) Hiring, onboarding, and staff support for PWDF, including all HR issues.

(2) Oversee and support Director of Public Awareness/Education and Office Manager. Support the Advocacy Program and its support staff (two to three).

(3) Oversee PWDF’s Pilot Grant program.

(4) Monitor income and expenses with bookkeeper; prepare reports as needed. Coordinate with bookkeeper and resolve problems related to payroll, bookkeeping, and tax return.

(5) Administer contracts for vendors, including insurance policies. Handle problems if any, with bookkeeper, payroll, computers and other office equipment, office lease, and other issues that arise.

(6) Ensure compliance with all state and local laws and reporting requirements, e.g., California Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, San Francisco ARF, respectively.

(6) Provide support and oversee IT vendors for computers and other office equipment.

(7) Prepare reports for PWDF Board of Directors.

(8) General development including locating and networking with supportive partners and monitoring of same. Communications, coordination and cooperation with other public or non-profit agencies serving our target population.

(9) Must be able to attend and fulfill duties for occasional liaison meetings, which may be called without due notice.

(10) Other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

Required:

1. Licensed California Attorney, JD, Ph.D., Master's Degree, or equivalent and minimum 8-10 years of relevant; e.g., civil rights nonprofit, experience.
2. Exceptional communication skills (oral and written); ability to write clearly including accuracy for detail with data in spreadsheets and other formats.

Highly Preferred; demonstrated transferrable skills helpful:
1. Experience in Social Security, employment, health care and other disability rights in both advocacy and education. Legal background helpful.
2. General knowledge of disability civil rights and Social Security/SSI disability necessary to administratively oversee PWDF’s programs or equivalent experience.
3. Knowledge of GAAP and bookkeeping, IT skills, employment laws and HR skills, working with and resolving vendor disputes, and nonprofit tax return filing (we have a CPA).
