Physical Therapist Asst.

Position Overview Altru Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Altru Health System, seeks a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in the Rehabilitation Department. In this role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care to individuals recovering from injury, surgery, illness, or living with chronic conditions. You will assist in implementing treatment plans designed to improve mobility, restore function, relieve pain, and promote overall wellness while carefully monitoring patient progress and documenting outcomes in the electronic medical record. Key Responsibilities Perform therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, functional mobility activities, and use appropriate modalities according to the plan of care. Educate patients and their families on home exercise programs, safe mobility techniques, and strategies for maximizing independence in daily activities. Collaborate closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and ensure each patient receives compassionate, evidence‑based treatment tailored to their individual goals. Prepare treatment areas and equipment, ensuring a safe environment, assist with patient transfers and positioning, and adhere to infection prevention and safety standards. Accurately document treatments, patient responses, and progress toward goals in the electronic medical record. Participate in team huddles and case discussions, contribute observations to refine treatment plans, and communicate any changes in patient status promptly to the supervising Physical Therapist. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program. Current or eligible state licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification. Prior clinical experience in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, or outpatient orthopedics preferred; new graduates with strong clinical rotations will be considered. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to follow a plan of care, and a genuine commitment to helping patients achieve their highest level of function. Full‑time, primarily on‑site within the rehabilitation hospital; schedule may include some flexibility to meet patient and departmental needs.
