New Hire Starting Salary Range: $19.74 – $24.70 per hour base wage (Actual title and starting rate are determined by individual years of healthcare experience, see below).

This is a permanent, full-time clinical career opportunity for an advanced Patient Care Technician to join a dedicated Emergency Department Observation Unit. Purpose

The Patient Care Technician-Specialist (PCT-Specialist) delivers advanced-level clinical support under the supervision of Registered Nurses to ensure exceptional patient care, safety, and unit efficiency. This position goes beyond standard activities of daily living (ADLs) to execute highly technical, invasive clinical skills. Acting as a vital bridge between nursing staff and patients, the PCT-Specialist assists with clinical diagnostics, performs key procedural interventions, and supports smooth, continuous patient monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Invasive Technical Skills: Inserts and removes intravenous (IV) catheters, performs IV dressing changes, inserts and removes Foley catheters, and executes straight urinary catheterizations under direct RN instruction.
• Diagnostic & Phlebotomy Procedures: Performs venipuncture (phlebotomy), obtains various specimen collections, conducts point-of-care testing (such as blood glucose monitoring), performs bladder scans, and applies/reapplies telemetry monitoring.
• Advanced Specialty Competencies: Conducts 12-lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia detection, complex wound care, and nasogastric (NG) tube clamping and removal as needed based on department operational demands.
• Direct Patient Care & Support: Consistently executes essential clinical care including vital signs, daily weights, strict intake and output (I&O) recording, simple dressings, and the prevention of Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs) and Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) utilizing TED stockings and sequential compression devices (SCDs).
• Clinical Safety & Mobility: Safe patient transport (including cardiac-monitored patients utilizing "ticket to ride" protocols), safe application/monitoring/removal of patient restraints per physician order, and assistance with standard mobility (ambulating, turning, and repositioning).
• Unit Operations & Collaboration: Supports clerical and universal unit needs such as answering phones, responding to call lights, and reporting equipment malfunctions to corresponding departments.
• Patient & Family Instruction: Delivers basic care instructions and guidance to patients and families under the direct framework and alignment of the supervising RN.

Minimum Essential Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Professional Experience: Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Option A: Two (2) years of general healthcare experience and meet the established requirements of a Patient Care Technician – Senior.
  • Option B: One (1) year of healthcare experience combined with active enrollment in an accredited Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physician Assistant (PA) program, with the successful completion of at least one clinical rotation.
  • Option C: One (1) year of healthcare experience combined with a completed Bachelor's Degree in a Health Sciences field.
• Clinical Training: Successful completion of the organization's PCT-Specialist training curriculum, electronic medical record (eRecord) training, and (if required by department needs) the appropriate corporate cardiac rhythm training course.
• Preferred Backgrounds: Active nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation, or certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) / Paramedics (including those currently enrolled in an EMT/Paramedic program) are highly preferred.
