Online English Tutor

Paper Airplanes is looking for volunteer English tutors to support adult learners affected by conflict through our free, fully remote English Program.

Paper Airplanes is a U.S.-registered nonprofit organization that provides free online language tutoring and skills-based learning opportunities for individuals whose education and career pathways have been disrupted by conflict. Our English Program connects students with volunteer tutors for an 18-week semester delivered online through video conferencing platforms.

As a volunteer English tutor, you may be matched with one student for 1-on-1 tutoring or with a small group of students for speaking classes. Tutors use Paper Airplanes’ guided curriculum, which is simple, structured, and easy to follow. No formal teaching experience is required.

This opportunity is fully remote and flexible. Tutors are expected to commit no more than 2–2.5 hours per week, including session time, light preparation, and any follow-up with students.

Responsibilities include:

• Meeting with your student or class regularly online
• Supporting learners with English speaking, listening, reading, writing, and confidence-building
• Using the provided curriculum and lesson materials
• Communicating consistently and respectfully with your student and Paper Airplanes team
• Completing the required online tutor training before the semester begins

We are looking for volunteers who are:

• 18 years old or older
• Comfortable communicating in English
• Reliable, patient, respectful, and open-minded
• Able to commit for the semester
• Interested in supporting conflict-affected learners through education
• Able to meet online with a stable internet connection
